It was my understanding that the british army is using the american Minime now, rather than the LSW.

That kind of makes this discussion pointless really, maybe it should be about telling the Mod Devs to give the british forces the Minime as a gunners weapon?

No, they still use the LSW as a... guess... Light Support Weapon, and they use the Minimi/GPMG as the heavy fire.

Your semi right Full. They use a combination of LSW's and Minimi's. Though I know which one id rather have as a support gunner.

GPMG's are mainly in use by machine gun sections, though they can be carried at a squad level. All depends on where your fighting I guess. No use humping a GPMG through an urban enviroment.

Yup.

That brings up another idea - like the SPR, selective maps. Urban maps, you get the LSW (IE: Mashtuur) and open maps, you get GPMG. (IE: Zatar)

Just remember IRL you need 2 guys to operate a GPMG if you're using it on the move...

Personally I think we should keep the GPMG to Mounted/Stationary roles.

If we really want a choice of which gun to give support, then I say between LSW and Minimi.

I'd prefer the LSW anyway - more accurate and less of a footprint on the surrounding area

Forgive teh stupidity, but isn't GPMG = Minimi? Or are they different. (I assumed they were the same, I haven't seen a Minimi before)

Anyway, I love the LSW. So i'd want that.

EDIT: Never mind, after some research I can see they are completely different.

Yeah, but as a support weapon? Support weapons are meant to put lots of fire down range, primarly to put the enemy's head down and then to kill them. The problem with the LSW is that it's not got a big enough mag capacity and is too accurate for it's own good.

M249 SAW is an FN Minimi.

The British designation is L108A1 and the Minimi Para: L110A1.

The Minimi are in process of takeing over the L86A2 LSW in the Light support weapon role, the L86A2 has since taken tests to become the British Army's marksman rifle because of its high accuracy.

The L86A2 in PR should become the DM rifle for the British, not only will it let the players have a choice between it and the Minimi but i suspect that if Britian went to war, the L86A2 would be rushed into the DMR role.

I dont think that the British Army classes it as a support weapon anymore, it might be handed out like the L85A2 as the Minimi has taken its role.

LSW is being skinned as we speak.

Although, I think the main squad weapon may be the minimi para. it would probably be set out like the snnipers, urban maps have the minimi, more outdoor maprs have the LSW.

But when/if the multipul new classes come, cant it just be reassinged to DMR so that we can get the Minimi?

The Minimi is actually originally Belgian, made by Fabrique Nationale. The US M249 is a version of the Minimi with some slight differences according to US specifications.

The L86 LSW is still sometimes found in fire-teams alongside the Minimi-Para (UK L110A1).
