Correction on my part, Harrier is not made "specificaly" for carriers as everyone hopefully understands. Yet very specifically for VTOL.... Rhino points out the astronomical + it gave the aircraft to be used in carrier duties. Which is what I equate the use for, in this mod, right now and looking into the future. In this release of PR anyone can see the Harrier fits some of the maps. It is slow and agile enough to maneuver in Matturah City now IMO but I am only comparing flying the harrier in one map and playing in the other. Barracuda also, but those are just my opinion. Trust me if someone was willing to dev a map with it in there, I would be knocking down the door to help test it. Maybe even other maps without a carrier...
Now back to the topic of an indicator... A simple thing like this, to me brings the realism to light - with a light. I do not know the bf2 engine coding language, as far I ever investigated it was python- so I can't speculate what would be easier to do: a light, just raise the gear deploy speed, make it manual, w/e. I am familiar with programing and know all of it takes knowledge, work hours and a willingness to accomplish the goal.
So far the points brought to the table are that some type of landing gear indicator would:
1. Help noobs learn how to land and sooner.
2. Help bring another aspect of realism to flying jets in general on Project Reality.
3. Help people VTOL land without changing views in the harrier on kashan trainning in v0.856.
4. Possibly assist the removal of unrealistic external views from an already "unfinished" or "buggy" jet = Harrier. (isn't that helping a solution to something already a WIP?. Hmmm...)
Some possible ways to accomplish this:
1. Make the landing gear manual.
2. Make all or only specific aircraft have an indicator on the HUD (like AIX2's MI-24 Heli).
3. Make another weapons slot showing the "status".
4. Make it both another weapons slot and maunal deployment of landing gear.
