it would be cooler to make a human suplly plane or helo that could drop of land and deploy supplies a helo would probly be easier though

Don't know how this would be done however it does seem like a good idea execpt for how useless it would make the supply drops.

then u could take out supplly drops on SELECTED maps but the C-130 or the MH-53J would be floating targets and would be hard to lland and the C-130 would need some JATOs to get off the short fighter runways

Smoke would be abstact unless....taking this idea one step further, the calling of supplies could make the Squad leader model lob a smoke grenade. Otherwise, nix the smoke, add in C130 sound effect, and add a delay to the crate delivery.

well naturaly alternatives will be introduced. But we all know this game (BF2) is shamelessly biased towards the USMC

the is surely a Russian supply plane. And I'm almsot certain that the Chinese decided to copy it.

I like the idea of having to pyhsically place a smoke grenade (for supplies only, not artillary)

I would say that the MEC and Chinese should get the same crate treatment as USMC. Add delay and sound effect of supply plane for all.

I've got something working along these lines... no shadow... but I've got a delay from the time the request is granted and some "fuzzyness" about exactly where the crate will land.
Will see what I can do about a sound, but that's a lil trickier .. no promises
Will be in a near future release.

About the whole shadow thing, unless its about noon an aircraft passing directly overhead isn't going to throw a shadow anywhere you can see. It would be a neat visual effect, but it would be too time-consuming to model up a C-130 or even a cut-out just for the sake of casting a SHADOW somewhere nearby the crate spawn. I'd much rather the time and effort be put into making plywood sheet statics for my maps. Having a "vroooom, airplanes!" noise is about all I think is worth the effort.

i like the idea of the delay smoke and crate dropping while sound of big plane coming over.
the shadow part, forget that, if the plane was so high you dont see it, it wouldnt cast a shadow anyways. I also like the ammo bag idea.

If it is possible to impliment, it would be cool to have
dedicated helicopters (
no guns or ability to carry troops)to perform supply drops.. and make the crates like ammunition so that
you have to return to base and reload/resupply, maybe
one or two crates per run..
also, then you could use the smoke grenades (if possible only for squad leaders..),
forcing the helicopter pilots to find out where to drop and get into battle to do it..
the
enemy could take out your supply helicopter and you’d be forced to wait for the respawn,
if in safe areas, the
helicopter could land/hover and resupply troops without dropping crates..
great idea from the start.. if helicopter thing not doable I would vote for at least the
sound effect and a good 30+ second wait..
