Indeed it is. Maybe if some kind of those "Normandy tin cans" would do as ammo and troop transport.

Great idea, I'm all for adding variety to the maps. The example you gave on Bi Ming was both elegant, simple to implement, and offers sophisticated options in gameplay. Two thumbs up. If instituted with a ticket-economy (IE giving commanders a choice between the boats and a truck), then it would open some really subtle choices.

Reloading would be a problem maybe
There's "wooden jetty" structures in game ATM - throw a reload zone ala choppers onto the water around them, problem solved. My main concern would be "How do you place the crates so they don't fall into the water all the time?"

Couldnt you tell the spawn to spawn at the nearest and largest peace of land?

in order for this to work on bi ming one would have to remove the british' ability to easily cover the main river running north to south before the chinese can get there

the idea is still good though.

maps you could use it on:
Qwai river
Bi ming
Op Barracuda
Kozelsk
Jabal
Muttrah city 2

Personally:
Qwai river - can really see the river being used as a supply route, especially given it running through the middle of forward outposts
Bi ming - would suit it pretty well, like someone else said perhaps have it as the Chinese supply method.
Op Barracuda - perhaps only on 16 layer
Kozelsk - not enough of the map is really available for it to be used I don't reckon, you can get up the rivers if you really want but a boat capable of taking supplies wouldn't be
Jabal - maybe on smaller layers, there are quite a few helis afterall
Muttrah city 2 - same kinda situation as Jabal, on 16 layer though I guess the yanks could do with a couple though
To be honest none of those maps are really that brilliant for them I wouldn't say, need some really big river systems before it's really worthwhile I think.

thats true, would be good if whoever held the processing facility gained the supply boat

thats true to an extent, I've seen some WIP maps that are quite watery, but we don't know what the final products will be

Just drop the crates infront, that way you can just pull up on land with the bow and drop them.
As long as you don't try to drop them on a steep slope they should stay on land.

I meant to say CAN'T, always swap the meaning of stuff like that round accidently, stupid barely recognisable dyslexia! Anyway on second thoughts it's a pretty ****ing big river.

A hovercraft armed with an LMG on each side and the ability to drop crates sounds awesome.
Some actual waterborne firepower would make river maps more interesting, so that those rivers are not simply dangerous crossing points, but places to attack from.
And as for a hovercraft v hovercraft battle - not sure it happens much in real life... but would it not be so awesome?

yeah imo, the pure awesomeness would outweigh the reality factor BY FAR. I was always hoping in a variety of water vehicles anyways...

I've always thought the boat issue in PR was a bit of a catch 22 situation; no one makes new boat models because there aren't any maps which would fit them well/make it worth while and no one makes maps with boats in mind because they don't exist other than the RIB.

A map with a riverdelta wih small lush islands to capture sounds like an awesome idea. Then the supply boat (or hover=)) is necessary to build FOB.
To implement supply boats into existing maps is possible, but a new map built with this in mind would be even better if we are allowed to dream a bit.

Map making takes allot of time so if you implement those boats now and somebody begins to make a map based around it the map will be finished in 6-12 months. It would be beter to audit some of the existing map to make them usable for those boats if the get ingame

Instead of a RHIB with supplies, how about a Landing Craft Utility, or LCU. They're medium sized boats used in amphibious assaults, and in the transport of troops as well as vehicles, which are probably well capable of delivering supplies. Since its a large craft, It should have to have a crewman kit. 3-4 Crates, increase the idle time destruction (the thing where when a object is left unmanned after 10 minutes usually self destructs) to maybe 30 minutes.

the disadvantage of that is that it requires a new model, but maybe the DEVs will suprise us on day.

simple fix for placing the crates, they appear 1-2 meters left or right of the boatd depnding onw hich click you use:
- right click puts it on the right, left on the left simple right?
- Also if you want you can makes the boat look differant by putyting like ammo boxes etc. along the sides and maybe even some kind of rucksack

not a bad idea, might even be worth just adding normal ammo crates the jeep drops to the RHIBs
