Hmm a map based on the river delta wetlands that border between iraq and iran could be a good one.

somewehere like the Shatt al-arab waterway?

british patrolling round in boats looking for insurgent caches and being ambushed from small islands and insurgent skifs?

just an idea :)

damn those ORC boats look top heavy bet handlings a bit tough but a couple of those supporting the rhibs in game would be sweet.

time to have a look at the "PR mapping for dummies" :)

right im going to be in the shed for a couple of years :D

That boat in that seal video is not a RHIB. What we need instead of upgrading the RIB is a real patrol boat that is made for combat. I'm glad the RHIB in game is so weak. Because it's a rubber boat filled with air, if i fire some bullets at it, i expect to destroy it. The only reason it has the mounted LMG is for protection. Like the guns on a transport helicopter.

Good god, looks like they pulled that thing from the bottom of the sea. But absolutely the RHIBs I'm referring to are for SF use only.

Man I dont care if they give us combat Kayaks, Our RHIBs suck and need work.

I admit having some form of RHIB could be used more universally between factions, but I kinna get the feelingthe USMC are missing out on their Amphibious Assault Vehicles.

My POV is that improved patrol boats and larger patrol craft get suggested pretty often. Please use search and the *** thread in the future.

I have suggested on the DEV forum that I would like to see plain old Zodiacs/CRRCs become the generic single squad water transport (6 men- one of the squad members as coxswain) with larger boats, unique (as we can get) to each faction, carrying an entire squad plus coxswain and gunner.
M.Warren wrote:What we need is a new model. The currently existing one is far too flimsy and unprotected.
The model there is of a Naval Special Warfare 11m RHIB used only by the USN Special Boat Teams/SWCCs. I have only heard of one other unit using them, and that was an experimental two-boat deployment with an MEU(SOC) and Marine crews.
KarateDoug wrote:YouTube - SWCC - Navy's Best Kept Secret

No Chain guns? No more than 2? lol. idk bout that
Not an RHIB. The boat is a Special Operations Craft- Riverine (SOC-R) and it's only used by Special Boat Team 22, whose focus is in riverine special ops. The conventional USN Riverine squadrons use the same boat in a slightly different configuration as the Riverine Assault Boat. Attached is a photo of the latter that I took at this year's NAS Oceana Air Show.

As you can see, it is armed with two miniguns forward port and starboard. You can't see them from this angle, but there is another M2 mounted port amidships and a Mk-19 automatic grenade launcher mounted center aft.
Dr2B Rudd wrote:I think the current RHIB could be upgraded for british maps, I have no idea what Americans use.

But the latest RHIBs are uparmoured, with a kind of skirt on the inside.
The ORC is not an RIB. The fendering collar is made of solid foam rather than being inflatable. The USN Riverine Patrol Boat (formerly USMC Small Unit Riverine Craft) uses the same type of fendering.

As for what we use, the conventional USN Riverine Squadrons use the RPB and RAB mentioned above, and recently picked up two or more (sources vary) CB90s for use as a Riverine Command Boat.
h3killa wrote:Voila?
Once again, an SBT only boat. That's the MKV Special Operations Craft. That mod got the name wrong (Sea Spectre is the designation for the old PB MK IV), but the model is very nice.
badmojo420 wrote:Because it's a rubber boat filled with air, if i fire some bullets at it, i expect to destroy it. The only reason it has the mounted LMG is for protection. Like the guns on a transport helicopter.
Only the fendering collar is rubber and filled with air, the hull itself is fiberglass, hence, the "rigid hulled" part of RHIB.

As to the complaint about lack of protection, that's pretty much a characteristic of military patrol boats. There are side armor kits, but as for overhead armor protection for the coxswain, gunners and embarked troops, not very many models offer it. The CB90 fitted with remote weapon stations is about as good as it gets in that regard.
