I would like to see someone force me to use my headset.
I use it because I choose to. Others don't for various reasons. Their headset may be broken, they can't bother sparing $10 to get one, they may need to stay quiet due to a baby in the room, etc.

You can't force people to do anything, just as you can't force people not to murder each other. If you decide, though, you can make it really, really, really, ridicoulously advantageous to do so (IE living a normal life, not in prison), or in PR's case, make it advantageous because you get to decide between having a good game on a server communicating with others, and getting kicked from the squad or server eventually (I'm sure this will eventually happen on some servers as mumble gains popularity, just as many servers enforce Voip. You don't necessarily have to use Voip ingame, but you would be the first kicked out of a squad/server to make room for others, I'm sure).

-If this was the case then all games would have an overwhelming amount of people using mics. The reason you use a mic in PR is because the mod is designed in such a manner that not having/using a mic is a severe handicap, i.e you're being forced to use it. People join squads and follow SL orders because not doing so would put them at a disadvantage, people avoid soloing tanks/APCs/etc. because there are obstacles put in place to dissuade or make it impossible to do so. If this was not the case then games like COD and BF2 would be played in the manner PR is being played, but because they don't force players to do anything it doesn't happen.

If mumble didn't BSOD my computer 95% of the time I start it, or butcher my sound settings the other 5% of the time, I'd look into using it.
The other thing is, for the life of me, I don't understand what mumble brings to the table that the current combination of voip, teamspeak, and textual chat, and no one seems to be able to truly clarify that for me.

I have to say that I find it very stress full to be SL on mumble... In the past I had no problem with SL but with the spammyness that occurs on mumble now and then it can be really annoying trying to talk to your squad when others on mumble is trying to get your attention. I know this is a question of some practice but I find it really hard, especially if the SM or SL don't have an understanding that you're a talking to someone else at the time they require your attention.
This is why we still need the the commander. It's so much easier imo if only one guy is coordinating the approach of a tactic between the squads though the lack of quick respons from other squads is more present.

I will admit, I have a mute/volume control buttons mapped so that I can choose what I hear.
But then again, on duty with St John Ambulance people often decrease their radio volume when talking to casualities, just to the level where you can hear ur callsign.

I played Jabal as MEC, and almost all the SLs, were on mumble. Needless to say.. We won... But only after we had a discussion on how to win. Was alot forth and back.

I´m starting to like mumble, but still there is some times that I join a squad and the only thing they are doing on mumlbe is singing and whistle out loud.. can´t understand this.. why this urge to act silly on mumble and scare away future mumbleusers? I think this is a problem that needs attention.

I 100% agree on this. Now I don't have anything against some silly stuff if you meet some guy on the battlefield a good distance away from the enemies *cough Wicca* but when it gets seriously people need to stfu and pay attention.

It can be fun with some comic stuff but not when round has started... If all flags are capped and a team can´t win and so on I don´t mind som sillyness (is that a word?)
I must admit It´s fun hearing people screaming in russian before a map.. scheeeeschkaaa... don´t know the spelling.
Also.. I have problems to squadlead in mumble.. I have to learn.. do I need to change channel in mumble or does this do this automatic...?

It's SHASHKA!!
You have to change the channel by yourself... Squadleaders have their own channel... It's very critical that you join this channel if you are going to be squadleader.

Haha! well cant blame people for having fun, and if they are having to much fun * Wink * Then just remove your self from their presence... Like just move away from them..
Sometimes, when there is just 2 squadleaders in the SL channel, me and another one, and nothing is really going on. Were just waiting. I like to say.
"This is squad 1 to squad 2"
"This is squad 2 go ahead"
"Squad 2 you fail out!"
Basically, if your bored in real life battles, waiting etc. You would do alot of stuff that isnt really "correct" behaviour"
But dont worry guys, during actual engagments, or when we need to keep our grill togheter, thats when you STFU!
I remember qwai yesterday, had one other squad on mumble, and the other squads not on mumble were going for the uncaps. Well, as i was attacking the flag that could be capped, we lost the defencive flag since there was just one squad there. Man i was so pissed off! So pissed off that people wouldnt come on mumble that i could tell them were to go! And well, if i go commander, im just gonna get bored to ****. And not enjoy PR, which is why i play PR, to have fun
So, i just spammed "Teamchat" Saying SQUAD this and that move there now! Do you copy?!
Funny, thing was, one of the SLs, joined my squad and we talked about what was going on and what just happend, he was abit offended that i had yelled at him, and i explained why etc. Made things a whole more civil. (He joined my squad)
So, mumble really helps...

You don't have a button binded to speak only to your squad on mumble. You have a button to speak to the people that are close to you (enemies will be able to hear you too if they are close).
The benefits of the squadleader channel is that you can use the force center key to speak to the squadleaders where ever they may be on the map without bothering the rest of the team (and the enemy team as well)
So
Force center: talk to everyone in the channel
Normal "talk" button: talk to everyone that is close to you
When you need to speak to your own squad use the in-game VOIP if they are too far away.

Yeah, mumble currently works in concert with vbf2 voip.
Think of local talk as your 'voice' SL coms as your radio on frequency with other SLs, and vbf2 voip as your radio on squad frequency

It doesn't bring a lot of new things to the table, but you'll like what it brings.
Less spam:
You are in a tank and want the driver to advance one meter. If you use mumble he will hear you and advance. The other tank some distance away would not hear it. If you said it on BF-voip all talk would hear it. Result of using mumble less confution.
You get into a chopper and want to go somewhere. You'll just say "Bravo 6 keypad 9. Land by the small building to the most east. And there are AA to the North of the LZ so go far south before you drop us of." Or just type: "b6kp9" in the chat, and before you have warned about the AA you are dead because of it.
Confusion:
You may say stuff on mumble to confuse your enemy.
Your all dead because of an APC. You can say to you teammate that are "alive": Aim man, you got the HAT, let him come to you. Then you hear the APC: "Lets go, they have a HAT, we'll go back and repair, then..."
Better communication:
You are infantry and you see enemies 320. You just say it and the APC you just got out of knows that someone very close spotted enemies at 320 even though you are in different squads.
Squad leader channel is great: I guess TeamSpeak does much of the same, but the latency on mumble is much lower. Mumble is also open source and is free to run for the servers and clients.
