Should hydras even hurt armor? I thought they were used as anti-infantry. If they're not, than the Z-10 just got a hell lot more powerful.
Pretty much everything in that post is wrong no offense.

How you classify AA is the first problem. Anything can be used as "Anti Aircraft" if it goes up.

If you're talking about dedicated AA platforms: SEAD - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Saying Aircraft "shouldn't" kill AA is like saying that you "shouldn't" kill someone because they're holding a gun. Just nonsense.

I am well aware that fixed wing aircraft are very much capable of destroying AA. What I meant were hydra hueys taking down AA.

In PR, even when the AA sees the huey first and fires those missiles, chances are, that the huey would still be standing if he used flares.

If the huey saw where those missiles came from, he would most likely turn to bombard that area with hydra rockets. What I am saying is that the AA system in PR is horrible, but that is off topic so I will not go any further.

^503 duno if you've tried it, but Combined arms has a different Flares Vs AA system. I think That system is both more realistic, and would make AA systems far less vulnerable to the tactic u describe.

Something to think about ;)

2 Attack Hueys on Jabal was a ridiculous move in itself. Obviously no thought of balance went into that whatsoever, and the Gaskin is so useless you can blow it up with a m249, let alone 1 or 2 huey rockets anywhere within 20 meters of it. I used to like Jabal, this version messed it up beyond recognition.

If Huey's could kill enemy apc's now, I would never play that map again. It's just not feasible to have such huge damage figures on such a small map.

so your saying that you dont like the new hydras because they are no longer laser beams? well the rockets have deviation in real life. suggesting that pr head back into vanilla territory is not going to achieve much.

Rockets also do their job in real life.

i would never tackle armor with hydras. i'd only get it smoking and it'd punish me when i turn my back on it.

The rockets fire properly now IMO, they were way too straight over distance before.

Deviation in this case is also a good thing because you want to spray a large area to kill your primary targets which are infantry and light vehicles.

Their damage is another matter.

Exactly...Especially true in the Huey.

I remember a pair of hydra hueys got around 25 kills EACH on a map I played today, without getting shot down once. The rockets, as you can see, are fine for their intended use. With a little direction by a laze, they even managed to take out an AA gun :)

I would imagine Flechettes(small, bolt-like shrapnel/projectiles) could be quite nasty against the more lightly armoured vehicles, such as BTR-60s. From what I read, Flechette-rockets are used rather frequently by British forces on attack helicopters.

Indeed. Effectiveness vs armour would be highly dependent on the warhead type.

Really?

The mindev for Hydra rockets is set to 6 which corresponds to a dispersion of up to 6 degrees from the boreline axis and is equivalent to roughly 105 milliradians (aka mils). According to the US Army's field manual on helicopter gunnery (FM 1-140), "crews can expect 7 to 12 mils of dispersion from rockets fired from helicopters"[1]. This deviation bears no resemblance to reality, however neither does the engagement range. Apparently, in real life, the most effective range for using these rockets is between 3000-5000m whereas in PR I see anything from 50m through to around 500m being used.

Forget what I said, Lets at least decrease the deviation a lil bit.

If you mean with armor, AA/APC then you are wrong, in 0.85 I used to kill every single AA and APC I see but now I cant do that in 1 strafe

Taking AA guns is easy, all you need is to hit him a few missiles, But taking an AAV not the BRDM AA needs about 10-12 hydra, which is impossible to be done in one strafe

I used to be a very good attack huey pilot, I used to last for the whole round nad get more than 30 kills and I used to kill a lot of enemy APCs in Muttrah.
But now after adding the new deviation system, It is impossible to kill in apc with your 14 hydra in one strafe.
I have asked everyone flying an attack huey that I saw so far about it and they said that they arent impressed, neither I am
So please can you remove it in 0.9????
PS: I searched for something similiar to this topic but found nothing.

Thanks,
Rudy,
PROBLEM: The deviation was put in because that's about how accurate they are in real life.
