If so it is on SP2 now, and newer drivers may be having compatability issues with Sp1...
No I dont think this is the problem, when I re-installed vista I put sp1 and 2 on and still I BSOD.

EDIT: BTW ran memtest and passed, and tested my vram aswell nothing wrong there.

Hi,

Yes my .net framework is updated. Also, memtest passed with no trouble. Only clue I have so far, really just a gut feeling is that I'm usually transmitting on ventrillo to my buds between maps, this is also usually when it bsod's. So I started feeling like maybe maybe it's a .86 map load combined with ventrillo causing the error. But thats just grasping at straws.

Your probably onto something that has to do with heavy loading i dont use vent but most of the time i crash its when guns are blazing and toungs are flyin.

You might be onto something here. At least once I BSoD-ed mid-sentence on VOIP. Maybe something to do with Creative cards?

Only thing is, I seem to remember reading something about how Windows Vista was designed so sound drivers couldn't cause a BSoD...

Well, my sound driver was updated to the latest titanium driver for vista in april. There is no newer - I can try re updating it. But keep in mind this system never blue screened in 2142, or in .85 - only .86 with all other conditions equal.

You can try to remove the sound card and try to load up with your onboard sound card just for testing purposes. It is possible to get blue screens due to the sound card being overstrained.

but conditions are not the same anymore really, as your using a different version of the game. ;)

Also, make sure you are actually installing teh drivers properly, ie uninstalling, cleaning, reinstalling.

I use a program called driver cleaner dotnet, perfect for the job and ccleaner also

I have the Xfi extreme music and know that I had BSODs after I updated the drivers wrong also running vista 64 at the time....

OK, I'll try that.

Just thinking that 6 bsod's have occurred during map loading (never the first map of a session) when the game is not making any sound. I know when it's loading there is a 'sounds' section of the loading, but I assume this is loading sample etc. directly to memory correct? This would be easier if it wasn't intermittent.

Also, I'm using dolby digital live, optical out to my headset - which in the creative driver requires you use 'speaker' as output, not 'spdif'

Thanks for the help in diagnosing this

BSOD again last night, this time on Korengal Valley, only thing I can think off is that it might be the latest forceware driver causing the problems. I run every other game (crysis, arma 2, prototype, call of juarez 2) that I have without any problems, its just PR that crashes my entire PC.
I have updated soundcard drivers, did a memtest on both the motherboard and the graphics card. Did an entire hard disk chec for any error, ramped up my fan speed (card runs at 53 degrees celcius now), checked my PSU (550W) so the graphics card drivers might be the only thing since Ive recently updated them.
Ill revert to the previous forceware drivers and see if that makes a difference.

"FIXED" but not satisfied....

Well 4-5 nights ago I started using my on board sound disabling my x-fi card and have yet to bsod, I started to notice it always happend while i was talking or while someone else was talking, While this has so far "fixed" the problem my on board sound has NOTHING on my x-fi card and it just sucks that i have to sacrifice one of the best parts of the game because of this. PLEASE help us find out the source of this problem so it can be fixed properly!

I refer you back to this post, if you reinstall your card and then uninstall using the process and tools ive stated it should fix this.

I have also been getting problems with nvidias drivers for win 7x64. I ve now updated to a newer lot and problem seems to go away, hope that helps.

Ok, good info on the sound card - the real question is what changed in .86 that stresses the sound driver/card to the point of blue screen that bf2, .85 and 2142 don't? I would imagine it's an unintended consequence right? I wonder how it can be diagnosed?

Well as you updated your sound driver in April then this could of been an underlying problem for a while, and with the summer coming now and heat causing higher tolerances of stress on your PC it could of just been an amalgamation of events really.

I hear you, but the point remains that only .86 causes this issue. So there must be something that changed in .86 from .85 to cause this stress. Plus, my office is climate controlled

Ill try the re-install of the drivers however I just re-formatted my computer (after the BSOD started) removing everything and re-installed all drivers by sound blaster download manager so i don't think it will make a dif but im willing to try ANYTHING!!

Sometimes it also helps to disable the on-board sound device if you use another one instead.

I only use the on-board sound device, its not the best but I've got nothing better. The drivers are updated to the most recent version, so I don't think it is the soundcard drivers that cause the problem.
Maybe Ill completely uninstall all drivers for it as mentioned above and see what that brings me. Ive tried switching video drivers and that didnt solve it so I think I can rule out my videocard as the cause for the BSOD's
