btw, thought I'd report, that I installed the control center, and now I'm much happier, it doesn't bite my head off anymore when I take my headphones out, it just switches to speakers.

Though, I'd still like a way to get programs automatically associated with either the speakers or headphones, cuz I can't see options in itunes or VLC to do this.

I tried getting around that by switching speakers to default device and then running itunes, then switching to speakers as default device. But itunes doesn't like this at all, its fine for about 1minute of music then it goes insane and cuts itself to death.

hmmmm, that is strange, I know on win 7 you can have a default device and then set something as a default voice device, but cant remember if that was on vista too...

well, yeah, you can set stuff as the default device for everything, just not per application.

Mumble and teaspeak have these options ofc, but not certain media players it seems.

Just do your self a favour and get a set of Speedlink Medusa 5.1 Home Edition Headset" headset.

No more pulling wires from your PC. Front or back. No need for extra software to change where and how you want sound to come.

Until you try them. You will never know the power of the dark side. Trust me when I say. this will fix all your sound swapping issues that you are speaking about.

By doing as I say. It will do the job that he is asking. Then, when he wants normal speakers for movies and music. You press 1 button. This magic button turns off your headset and turns on your speakers (the head set amp box has a pass-through). That's all there is to it.

If you was near Bedford. I Would say come and have a look/listen. You would buy by the time you left.

Do you use the Realtek HD audio panel? If so, a friend managed to get this working and had music out of speakers and teamspeak out of headphones, so I can ask im how he did it.

In VLC 9.9 -(not the latest :-| )

Tools-Preferences*-Audio-Output Modules-WaveOut
(show settings all* at the bottom)

There should be a drop down menu that would show (hit REFRESH) all the sound devices. If the headphones are listed separately (in Vista that I don't have) as a
'device' you can set it as "default device" for VLC only, having speakers as the "main" default device.
