Erm, no, you can still buy them, plus if you have read what I said, they run cooler, and you can clock them to the spec of a 280 very easily, as a pose to the 216 version which is hotter and pretty buggy...
you may also find that the 260 has been technically discontinued as has the 280 with the release of 275s and 285s, doesnt mean you cant buy them anymore.
Plus, q6600 should run at 3.0ghz all day long with no problems at all really.

I know it's not strictly a Q6600, but my Q6700 runs happily at 3.2Ghz 24/7 on the stock 1.3V *touch wood*
Will have to take it down to about 3Ghz for i37 though.
(Btw, where did CPU OCing come into this? lol)

I managed to push my BFG 260 216 OC Maxcore 65nm to 705/1190/1490 stable with 100% fan speed from stock at 590/999/1295. Temps never broke 75c

100 % fan speed though so....
My 260 192 is running at 700/1150/1450 on stock fan controller constant, not pushed, just always
Im not saying its not possible, im just saying that the 192 version is worth saving the money on 110%
