It can't carry more troops than the Blackhawk or Huey (in game) and it's a lot bigger, slower, and less agile than the both of those helicopters. It's going to be a bullet magnet. The only thing I see a Chinook doing in PR is falling out of the sky in a ball of flames.
Did anything actually made any sense in that statement?
But i dont think there will be any apache protection. They wont care for the guys in the chinook. Just go fly somewhere else where they think there is targets..
It´s not faster then the lynx or UH-60 hawks. At least I think so.

Oh and having the ability to drop a supply truck or 2 supply crates would also be equally awesome. Give the Chinook speed and you have the best target ever to shoot down with technicals.
Disclosed speed via online sources varies quite a bit. The Apache alone will vary from 290KM to 365KM depending on the source.
Anyway, that was a good video Alex, I wonder why PR helicopters are modeled to pick up a lot of speed when nosing down when in real life something as heavy as the Chinook doesn't pick up as much speed in a near vertical dive?

Since the Chinook is so large compared to most of the other choppers, there should only be 1 spawn on any given map, no matter how large the map is. Considering that the Chinook, if used properly, is a godly asset to ground troops, I also think that it should be given 3 TIMES the armor that any current helicopter has, 2 Supply Crates, and capacity for 8 as the BF2 engine allows. The downside is the same for every other air vehicle out there: Unexperienced pilots. You can't allow an unexperienced pilot to fly this thing, or your team might be screwed, may it be due to ticket loss or the team's dependence on the Chinook for everything. Before actually implementing the Chinook, we should think on how the addition will impact gameplay, or if it is suitable to add the Chinook.
In my opinion, the basic statistics for the Chinook should be:
- 3 Times the Armor, and 70% Armor Engine Failure rate.
- 2 Supply Crates, and if possible, a small jeep for use by the ground troops.
- Capacity for 8 passengers including Pilot and Copilot.
- Only 1 spawn in any given map.
- Major ticket loss every time a Chinook from your team is destroyed.

How large do you think it is...?
BTW, 3 are planned for Sangin:
'[R-DEV wrote:Dr Rank;1003950']Pre-testing gameplay/assets for the British (all of the gamemode plans are subject to change):
3x Chinooks at Bastion (responsible for ALL the supplies in the field i.e. no trucks)
I'd personally rather not rely on 1 potentially incompetent pilot to supply the entire team just because it's larger then other choppers.
Thanks for the preemptive, untested, balancing idea anyway.

I said it was large COMPARED to the other choppers, therefore I didn't say it was that large, just larger than the other choppers.
Secondly, it was just my opinion on how many Chinooks should be implemented on each map. I don't really care how many Chinooks they really implement. I just wanted to share my opinion on how many should be spawned on each map.

No. The Chinook isn't in PR .86.
Don't quote me, but I think it's coming out next patch.
Edit:: Already answered. My b.
Edit:: Aren't fast ropes suppose to be released in .9?

Don't hope. My cousin that is working as programmer (or something like that) at Criterion was here whole last month. He almost died trying to find the way how to incorporate fastropes (yes, he plays BF2, vanilla though). So I wouldn't put my hopes in it (unless we get paratroopers )
I just hope that supply crates will have drag parachute, so they can be dropped in low flight, without risk of being RPG'd to hell.

A chinook can carry 1 M198 gun so i don't see why it couldn't carry a land rover. That would be quite badass in fact.
either 1 crate + jeep or 2 crates.
Sangin will make or break the chinook.

the way i see it is: the ch47 'should' carry like 3 supply crates, maybe 4 to enable 2 firebases etc to be built. carry a light vehicle either inside or underslung and maybe if theres room, a few troops haha. oh, and a rear ramp gunner, so you can mutter GET SOME each time you fire a burst hahaha
