Excellent, I don't particularly like the cobra. The thing was pathetic in BFV, so I harbour baaad memories.
The latest variant of the Cobra is the AH-1Z Super Cobra, also referred to as the "King Cobra" or "Viper." It along with the upgraded UH-1Y will enter service in 2006, I believe.Silverwolf wrote:They're using the latest varient of the Cobra for BF2 instead of the Apache, can't remember what model it's up to now...

We lost no helo's to enemy fire during major combat, most of the medina division capitulated anyway. The only acft lost in the actual "war" were due to either acft trouble or friendly fire.Tacamo wrote: Probably because a bunch got shot up really bad attacking the Medina Division.![]()
Sorry for the late reply.Ugly Duck wrote:Well, without the apache that OH-58 will be a lot less usefull. One of the things that big dome does is pain targets for apaches hellfires, so they can do it from under cover. However, the Longbow can do this its self in the form of the UFO lookin' thing on top of the rotors. But yes, if the army is included then the apache should be too. And the OH-58 is, to my knowledge, an army helo. However, the cobra is an awsome helo, and should remain in game with use on certain marine'ish maps.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the Kiowa can designate targets for just about any platform that fires laser guided weapons. It is not tied in specifically with the AH-64 line of helos.Ugly Duck wrote:Well, without the apache that OH-58 will be a lot less usefull. That is correct; the Kiowa Warrior can also designate targets for Copperhead laser-guided artillery rounds. The laser target designator is also capable of designating for any compatible air-to-surface weapon in the US arsenal, including Maverick-E AGMs and Paveway series LGBs.BlakeJr wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the Kiowa can designate targets for just about any platform that fires laser guided weapons. So the usefullness is still there even without the Apaches. Cobras can fire Hellfires too you know...
Compatible ground-vehicle based or man-portable laser target designator and the Apache and Cobra can use their own TADS (target acquisition and designation system). Also, some US Marine UH-1Ns and the upcoming UH-1Y are equipped with a FLIR/laser target designator system under the "chin" of the aircraft that can designate for the attack helicopters they support.solodude23 wrote:What are other ways to designate targets for Hellfires?
That's correct There are millimeter wave radar guided Longbow Hellfire missiles (AGM-114L) and the most recent laser OR radar guided Hellfire II missiles (AGM-114K).Tacamo wrote:Forgot the model number, but I believe the newer Hellfires can use the Longbow radar in addition the lasers to track targets.
