I think 1 is fine to be honest, but I'm against having it reduced by default. Believe it or not this is a server side thing, if you guys want a vBF2 style kiddies game with 15 second spawns go buy your own server and change the settings. I either go a whole round with very few deaths so hardly suffer from the dying penalty because of a good squad, or we get totally whored and I end up with quite an annoying death toll building up. Sometimes you can't help dying, and it sucks that we'd have to pay even more for it. I'm thinking noob Little Bird pilots ruining everyone's day.

Me: "Dude, you should really fly a little higher."
Him: "OMG NO EVER1 WiL GET HURT WHEN THEY JUMP OUT"
Me: "1) We all have parachutes. 2) I'd rather get injured on landing than shot..."
*AT Missile smashes right into the chopper*
Me: "...down."

Alternatively there's the other scenario when someone thinks they're a leet chopper pilot but clearly have never been in a Little Bird and only when they've got a 6 man squad inside they realise the physics are a little different from usual. The best scenario is when you're not actually in the plane and you get pretty annoyed that you couldn't get a seat, only to see the chopper flip upside down right after takeoff and explode. :D

I'm sorry to hear that, because these growing penalties only stimulates the Anti-Game. If you want to discourage rambo play, my God, make squad members respawn back at their main base when they die. The way the game is it just encourages rambo play, because "rambo" is always in a squad and he knows that when he dies he will repawn next to his squad leader wich is probably camping somewhere, avoiding the fight. Main base respawns will break the squad when 1 or more member die, because they will have wait for their fellows to cross the battlefield (hoping not to die again) to join them. Now THAT is making life valuable. Only organized squads will stand a chance, and not those lame moving green spawn points.

I have to say i hate this long spawn time because it stimulates players to avoid confrontation and lay back hidden somewhere waiting for someone to pass in front of their weapon's barrel to pull the trigger because they are too lazy (or too afraid) to die. I'm not a rambo, but i usually end my games with a high number of deaths (and also of kills) because I try to help my team in the firefight everytime. I LOVE doing this, but I feel I'm getting severely punished for that.
