The shipment came in today, I ended up getting an xtremegamer card with a razer carcharias headset. I installed the drivers, restarted, and played one of the default mp3 songs on Windows 7.
IT SOUNDED INCREDIBLE
I could hear the violins and **** creaking as they were played, as well as a multitude of other intricacies.
Next, I booted up Project Reality: Sound.... ULTRA HIGH
.I could hear jets zooming around, and at times I even looked to the sides of myself, that's how real it was. I heard a cacophony of explosions, bullet shots, and crashing metal. The sound positioning... INCREDIBLE. Overall, it seems to be worth the money.
However, this is coming from the perspective of one who used a lower end headset, so I can't vouch if its the card or the headset making the game sound better . However, when you combine the two it is somewhat difficult to justify NOT getting a sound upgrade if you like Project Reality, and you have the money to spend.
