Re: "Clear" Should be on the Comma Rose

That's actually already ingame,
when medic bag is out you only have "FIRST AID, HERE" and "Good to go"
Follow me would be more effective when healing non-mumbling blues.

I didn't think we were going to use the existing sound files for this.Spec_Operator wrote:The context in PR might be, but in BF2 vanilla, from where the sound files come, the context is "step back, I'm using these funny shock paddles!" - And so was the context of the arabic and chinese translation, and to native speakers of those languages it must sound odd when suddenly someone says "step back!" after clearing a room. Unless I don't understand you^^
Anyway, the idea isn't bad, but I'm not sure if I'd be happy with this solution. Especially with all the new community factions - there are a lot more native speakers for some of those languages here (german, french etc), and personally I'd be confused by people using it to say "area clear" while I hear "zurück!" [(stand) back!].
So... no sound? Since, like I said, I doubt we have many arabic and chinese (and probably not even english, let alone all the community factions) speakers with access to high quality sound recording equipment and enough time to re-record everything...Solid Knight wrote:I didn't think we were going to use the existing sound files for this.

I've you've just cleared a building and you know it's clear right before another friendly squad runs towards the doorway to assist in the fight they saw, how're you going to communicate with them if they're not using Mumble?Guerilla_Frank wrote:Having the "clear" sound on the commo rose might be a funny thing when the building actually might have a hiding hostile still inside. Yea, I forgot that the big comma rose pops up for the medic. I still agree though.Dr2B Rudd wrote:That's actually already ingame,

VOIP and Mumble have lag. My main point in suggesting this is because there isn't a delay over the mics as there is with regular comms. I've had many times when I said something like "grenade" over VOIP and it came right as the grenade blew up.Sgt.Smeg wrote:No matter how many communication apps you have running, I use VOIP, TS & Mumble at the same time, you can't beat the in-game sounds when it comes to talking to the smurfs. The main point of the OP suggesting "Clear" be used elsewhere is because there's already a vBF2 sound for that which PR already uses.
The only thing that needs clearing up is for someone to give a direct translation of what each one is saying to make sure all of the languages work in context. Don't forget the community factions, there's plenty to check. Then, I'd see it as an awesome suggestion, one I'm sure has been mentioned elsewhere and I've thought about using in game too.
+1
If I go running into a building and clear the top floor out, it would be much easier to say "clear" on the comma rose so that the rest of my squad doesn't come in to clear the top as well, saving time. It seems like an insignificant amount of time, but anything helps. With lag from VOIP and Mumble (I assume), it would say time as well as help with other people not in your squad or non VOIPers. They still exist you know.Guerilla_Frank wrote:Having the "clear" sound on the commo rose might be a funny thing when the building actually might have a hiding hostile still inside. 2 clicks, "Clear!", they'll know you've killed the bad guys.

I downloaded it, just too lazy to install it lol. Its much easier to find VOIP players IMO. I am going to try it out one of these days though.Sgt.Smeg wrote:![]()
Mumble has almost no lag at all, it's impressive. If you've not used mumble yet, I'm going to slap you again.

That's a good idea. Aren't there already Russian, Arabic, and Chinese voices for that ingame? If there are, that would work pretty well.Spec_Operator wrote:Hmm... The commander voice says stuff like "area secure" indeed. Dunno how usable that is - the messages are usually quite long too, "Position clear and under control, good work men!" I guess you could cut that to "Position clear-" but you'd have to do it with russian, arabic and chinese too of course.
