Some people go outdoors once in a while and are used to having the sun in a particular area of the sky, which is not north. I've often called enemies west since I thought it was a sunset and I'm looking right at the sun...

Ooow, that was a mistake :p
He's a DEV.

@Topic:
Just move the compass I'd say.

Cant Do it. Move the compass move the map. Too much coding.

Simple Solution is to rotate the Sky Image and move the flare.

But No one wants to LM the thing again.
All honesty I wouldn't worry about it IMO>

Just imagine the island is on the south pole, where the sun can be on the horizon to the north.

Wow, that's some extreme global warming then^^

Can't you just replace the numbers? It would still point to north, but "north" would just be called "west" (is it morning or evening on that map? W/e).

To be brutally honest... who gives a ****? Like seriously, where do you guys find time to think that 'hmmm.. some PLA soldier is shooting at me, but HEY.. the sun is in the north!!'

I agree that it is not important. But if possible, even small bugs should be fixed. If not possible or too hard, then not, okay. But if an easy fix can be found, why not do it?

Hey guys!
Heheh, honestly I dont remember what I said in that old thread to make it seem like I was mad... but whatever ;)

Just to toss some things out there:
1. I, for one, never once considered where my sun was placed in the sky while mapping Ramiel, so I doubt most other mappers really take this into account. I was more concerned with statics, terrain, and everything else that factors into gameplay ;)
2. Even still, depending on where you are on the earth, the sun doesnt rise/set directly in the East/West. It varies, but only by 15-20 degrees (cant be asked to Wikipedia the actual number) depending on your latitude. This still probably ddoesnt make up for Barracuda or most other maps.
3. What do you place more importance on? The way a map looks/feels in terms of lighting, coloration, shadows, etc? Or that the degrees on a compass match up to the exact day/time/latitude of the real world location? [answer the latter and I'll have a MOD ban you ;) ]
4. There is no four.
5. Well, to be honest, I thought I had a fifth but can't remember it...

:)

well you know, when you are defending some place on the beach and no one attacks for a while, you get into a philosophical mood and start to wonder: why the hell does the sun rise in the north?

i don't really have any problem with it, i just found it kind of funny.
i don't even care if they fix it, I was just wondering if anyone else noticed.

Lol thats not how it works... The sun rises in the east and sets in the west.
Or rather, the sun stays in the same spot, and the earth rotates counter-clockwise around it's own axis.

Guys, just put your screen on it's side whenever you play barracuda, so that the sun rises... wait, that won't work.

Maybe we should just stop the preconcieved notion that the US must always attack an Area from the North whenever it is a carrier-borne assault.

Muttrah, Barracuda... the carrier's always on the north side somewhere. (Well, I know Muttrah is laid out realistically... but, just an example)

Now what happens more often in real life? Ugly looking locations or the sun rising in the wrong place? :-P
