Not specifically feet, but the femoral artery can do some nasty things if you cut it. (And most of the body armor I know of doesn't protect that area.McLuv wrote:Knives at least need changing, they shouldn't be killing players with blows to the feet.

Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

I'd say give it an alternate (right click) and put the band aid there. That would free up a slot where the bandage used to be.

Re: Knives. Do we really need them?
if i was to make two changes to the knifes it would be.
(A) Cannot use Knife while prone. [Reason being. Nobody in real life prone dives to stab. You end up stunning yourself and in any case if you snuck up on a prone marksman it would make more sense to get the knife under his throat while pulling his head back. not shiving his heels.)
(B) Get rid of the stupid swishy-swoshy sounds on the bayonetts and knives. its old. the only sounds should be the sound of the knife making contact with the texture.
(Also) Knifes are for personal defence and silent takedowns. And the main thing that ruins the emmesrion of a silent takedown is the character screaming when he has been slashed. if your throats slashed you gargle, then drop, at least i think so anyways. These old assed sound that are still in use are by no means a trifle to replace but if its at all possible the removal of screams for silent takedowns would be very nice. It would make the usage of a knife more worthy of the weapon slot.

We could change the shovel into a melee weapon, bam open slot.
At least for conventional maps.

I wouldn't mind seeing Crewmen lose their zip-ties on insurgency.. I get pretty irate when a tank driver dismounts to perform an arrest on a collaberator.

the knife is the greatest. I killed a firebase and 3 guys with a knife today on Quai being a sneaky ******* in the grass. unless you make the shovel able to bash peoples heads in i want the knife.

Could we add another attack mode for the weapons to bash with the buttstock instead?

you should type in all chat, that they can just overrun them, no need to dismount
I'm not saying remove them now. I'm just asking, would people be willing to give up their knife for, say, frag grenades for the AR or something along those lines.
no, and again, how we will be destroying FBs and RPs without it?
i personally cant see anything what emergency requires a new slot

Re: Knives. Do we really need them?
I think they really waste a weapon slot, but they shouldn't be removed because we need some protection when out of ammo. Would be a lot better though if we could use the rifle for melee attacks, like in many other FPS games. Is it possible without wasting a weapon slot?

Re: Knives. Do we really need them?
Is it possible to have the rifle have 2 "CLICKS" for no more ammo, and then it would automaticly bash. BASH BASH! Or stab with a bayonette, you know, if you dont have time for reloading.
What happends to me alot, is spraying alot in Close quarter, then i use my pistol, and then noone is covering me. And i dont have time to reload, so i take my knife out. It works.
We could switch the shovel? So it would be a Building and stabbing device, i mean ive heard countless times people going on about how they would kill me with their shovel, then bury me with it...?

Alternate weapon functions like melee attacks are not possible as far as we know in BF2.

Re: Knives. Do we really need them?
I could live without the knife if it means something good was brought in to replace it.
it would also make supplies more important.
Personally i'd like a melee attack that could also open doors

Re: Knives. Do we really need them?
I don't think knife is really needed in PR besides that without it it would be much harder to destroy RP's and FB's. Plus removing the knife would maybe discourage players from sneaking up somewhere where there's alot of enemy and knifing them all. And it's not really realistic how in CQB situations players run around like maniacs to knife someone. Never seen/heard of any soldier in modern days running into enemy territory with a knife.
Just my opinion, don't flame me for it

Re: Knives. Do we really need them?
well, bayonets maybe. But with the engine limitation that we cannot have shooting and knifing on the same weaponslot, would be best to remove it all.Never seen/heard of any soldier in modern days running into enemy territory with a knife.
though on INS....can't arrest without. hmmm

Re: Knives. Do we really need them?
Unless it gets replaced by something really awesome, I want the knife to stay. I can't imagine any military force not giving their soldiers hand to hand combat training, and the knife is a good way to represent this.
And like others have said already, the knife serves more purposes than just killing.
