nothing works! AHHHH

There are two service packs for Windows Vista. Service Pack 1 (SP1) was released in April 2008, and might already be installed on your PC (to find out, click on the Start button and enter "winver" in the search box). Service Pack 2 (SP2), released in May 2009, contains all the updates they've released since SP1 plus support for new types of hardware and emerging hardware standards. You should install both Service Packs, and you need to install SP1 before SP2.

What is the current path to your PR.exe?

Check your permissions settings for your firewall. It might be that you are not allowing BF2.exe to have TCP and UDP traffic to pass across it (thats the only reason I can think of internet and LAN experience being different).

Also make sure that your graphics resolution is not 800*600, as that will always cause you to crash on map load.

Ill try installing sp 2 but changing the res didnt work and i can run vanilla BF2, FH2 and OPK fine its just PR that dosnt work

jollyroger, can you explain again the exact point at which you are having and error and exactly what happens ?

My game loads up, loads LOCAL Servers, if i try and join an internet server it crashs on 99%, on all maps.

Ok well this means your PR exe works fine, and it also means that your BF2 works fine ... and that you can load maps (so it would seem its not a memory issue). Just the online thing ?

As I have said before , the only thing I can think of is that your firewall is blocking traffic somehow.

how does it crash ? Does it hang up , or do you crash to desktop ?

In your short cut to the pr.exe ... add this parameter at the end of the Target box

+fullscreen 0 +szx 1024 +szy 768

This should cause an error message to be generated when you CTD ... and if you could tell me what that error message says, I might be able to get an idea what is going on.

Thats the error messege i get when it crashs after i put on the target with posted

with out reading through all the other 4 pages i guess reinstalling has already been suggested - but it really sounds like a corrupt or legacy file - manually delete the bf2-folder after uninstalling (also delete bf2 in "my documents") to go really sure

im doing what you've surgested ive got high hopes for it but its proving to be a pain as i lost my levels file and had to download another where it said i needed to install 0.876 CORE but i only had 0.856 which is what i thought i needed, after downloading the core again i became VERY annoyed after 6 hours of waiting for it to download from the only british mirror said the files were corrupt. still trying, gonna download a different one this time..

You'll need 0.874 Core Files and 0.874 Levels Files - why don't you get the torrents it's the easiest and safest way not to get corrupt files.

Yep this seems like its the cause of your problem. Basically the BF2 engine is having trouble running its network manager ... and this explains why you crash only connecting to the internet.

As this is a BF2 issue, it wont matter how often you reinstall PR, as the cause lies with BF2.

I suggest trying to reinstall BF2 after first uninstalling it and cleaning any references you can find to it in the registry (ask if you need more details). Because it seems as though your path to either BF2 or your path to the 1.5 patch is extremely odd and non standard. It is possible that your patch has installed in the wrong place due to an old registry entry that is confusing your system when you try to do a clean reinstall. So just reinstalling might not fix it without getting rid of all BF2 references from your registry after uninstalling.
