No, they don't have to use lasers, the seeker locks on to the temperature difference between the target and its surroundings, for example a door or a window might be colder or hotter than the wall around it, thus letting the missile lock on to it.
Also, the CLU has a conventional "non-thermal" view mode. The missile doesn't, it only sees IR.

Guys, Javelins would be a single shot, you forgot.
Being able to lock up a target would make HAT far more useful, and instead of using it as AA or against infantry, you can actually use it for what it's meant to do, kill tanks.

ammo source + multiple shots. and HATs ingame are currently useful if the user has reasonable skill.

Javelin would be cool but would totally destroy the game due to its awesome power. One guy and a Javelin and the other team wouldn't even dare make a tank squad.
