It's that realistically, you will NOT find Crewmen running into battle alongside the infantry, gun in tote. They are based around their vehicles.
Crewmen should only be requestable at their respective vehicles because that's what they're meant to operate. Period.
Not that I agree or disagree with your suggestion, but I could make a long list of unrealistic things that happen in PR, but I am not going making threads forcing changes to make people play exactly how I think it should be.
Crewman may not run around in real life, but nor does one tank drive across a desert to face 3 T90s and an SU25, or a truck drive into a bunker below tank infested hills etc

You're simply over complicating things for the sake of arguing.
Lets get a few things straight. Crewmen are meant to operate vehicles, yes? That is the sole purpose the kit was implemented in the first place, right? There is no reason for them to do otherwise. By preventing the Crewman kit from being requested anywhere but their vehicles, you eradicate most of the unrealistic player behaviors, such as taking the kit for the primary reason of using it in combat or other reasons besides operating their vehicle.
It's just a simple fix for something minor, yet unrealistic.

I haven't because I'm involved in longer range firefights or grenade rushes the majority of the time on Asad. If caught in CQB whoever gets the jump wins so I don't even know if the enemy had a MP5 if they killed me, and I've picked up and then discarded a few crewman kits while playing that map but never found the weapon to be memorable.
What I usually die to is grenades, which the crewman kit doesn't have. The rifle that kills me the most on Asad Khal is the AutoRifle at both range and up close. If people are grabbing crewman kits and rushing over and over then they are dying, and therefore not being effective.

How about making the crewman kit spawn without any ammo and make it so that you only get the ammo inside a tank/apc.. after a certain delay, say 1 minute.
That would prevent people from using the mp5 or any other crewman rifle on the inf maps but you can still request it and use it to dig up your firebase.
If done in that way you can still defend yourself when you lose your vehicle.

You're still missing the point. There is no reason to do so when the kit simply cannot be requested from crates.
Its my assumption that crates can be coded so certain kits cannot be requested from them. The same thing is in place with the LAV etc, with a few kits not being eligible for request, but being able to from crates.
I agree with the OP, its a simple, effective solution to a big problem. However, what happens when they just go up to the shoebox on Asad and request one there?

I'd say simply remove it. The map is orientated towards infantry combat. The damn things almost never last more than a solid five minutes anyways.
Not like it matters, in v0.9, I believe the teams on Asad Khal will be the IDF and Hamas.

LEAVE OFF MY SHOEBOX.
Don't take away the BRDM -- it's an awesome piece of fun hardware for the MEC team!

i agree, its a hard one, the Tavor, or a shoebox?

I agree, on Oil field’s it a lot of fun, until it inevitably catches fire,
