Wow, that's some serious lack of reading skills going on in page 2.
Scared_42:
My example had 5 pilots and 4 choppers, not 5 choppers. The extra pilot is needed for the seat swapping.
The example used the condition of there being no warm up time for the co-pilot. If there is no warm up time then hopping from seat 2 to 1 would skip the warm up time so you wouldn't have to wait for it.
I stated that the also mentioned lengthening of cool down would be better since the only 'exploit' for that would be the ability to switch seats and since both pilot seats have controls it would not be an exploit...

The other side of the coin that you haven't addressed is that by doing this you will then tying up 8 players for transport squads rather than just 4. In terms of gameplay it's just not feasible.

TomDackery wrote:I actually did this in game with a Cobra when the pilot was disconnected. If you can seat switch fast enough, theres a much smaller warmup time.
But yes, increase the cool down time of the helicopter might work well also?
Happened to me too in Muttrah quite a few times, my pilot gets kicked.. And being over rather hard to land mountains.
But the warm up time seems at instant to be like 5 seconds or less. Might depend on how fast can the co-pilot change to pilot seat.

Honestly, do you think in midair a gunner can open the glass hatch over the both of you and rip the 180lb + pilot out of the seat, jump over his seat without falling out, close the hatch and somehow keep flying while being shot at?
No.

In most if not all attack helicopters both copilot and pilot have flight controls and can more or less equally operate flight and weapons equipment iirc.

there are 50cals on the tanks.
But how often do you see every single tank possessing a 50cal gunner on kashan?
its choice.

rudd i think that was his point, by doing that you are only handicapping the team so no one would bother much with it.

No.
no i wouldnt, they would simply flick a switch and be able to operate the flight controls without having to move at all.

yet tanks still have the option....
regarding trans, there are some helis ingame that have a zoomable camera on the co-pilot side, so when not transporting you can scout. So if the pilot teams want they can fulfil a teamwork orientated role, also they can watch out for threats during transport/supply runs, since the pilot cannot really look around very well even with the 7, 8,9 views.
Also, for these reasons above, its something the CAS squads can do thats useful while they wait for assets to spawn.

The way the cameras function makes this role very hard to fulfill. Helicopters either need to fly steady, slow, predictable flight paths so the cameras can do their job, or the copilot can try to get lucky on a standard run and nibble some intel from the rush of black and white.
I find it's a rare exception to the rule that anything useful ever gets done with the spotter cameras.
