where did i mention console fan boy? also notice the question mark after the "not big pc gamer..." question?
like i said, legit question.
"maybe he wants to play in his couch? maybe he wants to try it for vehicles? maybe he wants to try it for fun?"
maybe thats why i asked?

well, gazz. maybe you should have responded to his questions in a more timid way instead of jumping on the "i-know-best" high horse. pisses me off.

i asked him why he would use a controller over a keyboard and mouse?
he also asked "dose it work well?" and i answered him to what i believe is the correct answer in which mouse and keyboard is alot better, more keys and higher precision and speed. its not elitist when the only practical use for a controller i can see is for planes, in which case get a joystick. Also high horse ? im a avid console gamer as well. but what ever , i dont care anymore.

I find driving with a controller is a good way to change your poise when playing for extended periods, stops you getting WASD hand. Sit back and let the thumb do the hard work for a change.

Calm down.
I'm good using a mouse and keyboard or a controller, I just think the control feels more fluid to play with.
Thanks for the advice

lol, realized that this might just work with a guitar hero guitar from Ps3 (usb) !! but maybe more like gunning operations or something simple to do : )

Yes, it would as long as the inputs are recognized by windows. But 4 buttons and a switch won't get you very far.
I've dabbled with my old Thrustmaster Firestorm Dual power (basically a ps2 controller in layout with some extra triggers) in combination with
Pinnacle game profiler and it works pretty well. It's pretty fun to fly choppers and drive vehicles with it and can control infantry pretty well.
Takes a while to get the buttons right and tweak sensitivity, but once you got it down it's pretty neat.

I'm, glad I made this thread, seems like it got a few people using controllers on pr.

I've got a Saitek controller and I used it once for PR, and I found it was a pain. There isn't enough buttons to program for what you do with a kb and mouse, and looking with a controller is slower than using a mouse. I'd say forget using a controller and just deal with the kb and mouse.

Usually I would agree with this but having analogue buttons/flaps/joysticks at your thumbs is much better for controlling vehicles. I sometimes use the throttle on my controller for jeeps and trucks. A full size Joystick will always be better than m&k for aircraft too.

Have you seen how British crewmen operate Challenger 2's? No, didn't think so.

Player movement with a joystick makes more sense too. Rather than being restricted to Walk > Run > Sprint, you'd have the ability to move at any pace you wish with analogue controls.

I also want to use a PS3 controller. Can I use the analogue stick to move my character because I read someone saying you cant.

I've always used keyboard and mouse for flying, no problems.
Flying fixed wing aircraft can be easier with a joystick but personally it's not worth the loss of accuracy and desk space.
Can't stand using a joystick for helicopters.

I've tried to use it, but it is absolute rubbish as my computer doesnt properly understand the value's of the potentiometers inside the controller. only making me able to 0% - 50% - 100% of the throttle and it tends to bug out now and than.
I prefer using mouse and keyboard honestly

i use mouse and keyboard on flying helicopters, and it's easier than with my joystick... , i used to use keyboard and mouse on aircraft too and it was very easy to control too, but with the joystick it's + fun...

I only use my keyboard when I'm flying, and it turns out great.

Sorry I'm such an avid flight simmer, but I don't get how anyone could fly without a joystick! I suppose for vBF2 or PR you don't have to worry about flight dynamics very much, since the flight models are very forgiving. But for someone like me who is used to playing games like DCS Black Shark, a M+K is way too clunky. W to go up and S to go down offers no precision for the throttle/collective. And by default, the Y-axis of the mouse is reversed, which led to a few crashes before I was able to integrate my joystick.
Back to the topic at hand. As an experienced console gamer, I totally understand how someone would be more comfortable with a controller. It's just a matter of preference.
