If the maps were as big as Counter-Strikes, sure.

Otherwise it'd just be absolutely horrible.

We (Dev's) and (community members) talked about this before and it would be interesting. But it could only play out on one servers as those who think it would be fun....and stay to play would be very small. Technically you could do it yourselves by having a admin(that could kick if needed) and EVERYONE only playing one life.

This is interesting, and if the engine was more flexible I would be a good thing I guess, if u ever played America's Army(free promotional game by the US army) u know what its like, u only have 1 life and basically the round ends when 1 of the teams bites the dust. People really play it more slow and think b4 they act and run across open fields, but it results in a lot of camping as well.

I think a really awesome idea for PR2 would be to have a special hardcore game mode where if you get killed you are instantly disconnected and ip banned from said game mode for 30 minutes. It would be the kinda thing where you do it when you first connect to PR2 and then once you die you just go play normal servers. I could just picture it in Teamspeak, "Hey guys you wanna go pub?", "Sure, lets start hardcore though", "Sounds like a plan". To prevent griefers who just come in to TK people for fun and force them outta the gamemode you could have reports where said players get blocked from the game mode if credible evidence is provided.


PS with regards to the origanal question I think we could safely say the qoute:

"Every time there is any flying vehicle on a map, most people turn retarded."

would be changed to

"ANY flying vehicle on the map, would make EVERYONE turn PARANOID."

This Idea is one of the best.

It would be interesting but hard to arrange all those steps.

This would make the game way to hard, but if it was a optional game mod, and it was confined to only a few servers you get away with it.

But my thoughts are if it going to work you have to seriously over hall your character’s ability to take cover, Say being able to control how much you wish to expose your self to enemy fire, just like in real life,

for example if you where hiding behind a section of wall you have to have the ability to peek over it and shoot, exposing the least amount of your body to enemy fire. and this goes for leading around corners too, and it has to be easy to do it can‘t be fiddly you have to be able to do it on the fly,

If done correctly it will increase your survive ability and make this more viable, because if you can't protect your self effectively, this game mode will not work.

well i had to adjust my gameplay to it but it worked out pretty well in Americas Army. Though the battles in PR tend to take way longer than the max. 15 min at AA. So it would be very very boring for people who die in the first 30 minutes. Free-mode, commander mode, whatever abiltys asside, it just would brake the concept of gameplay wich bf2 has. And even if you say, play safer and more realistic in terms of avoiding contact, not going for the kill, well how about that nasty placed IED on the road you drive with your squad, watching everycorner but still being blown up, it would be awsome but very fustrating.

It would be cool to play a massive multiplayer role playing war sim. Where you start out in bootcamp, and progress further like in the real military. Only players who've seen lots of combat and lived through it, would be up for promotion to the higher ranks or commanding roles. If you die at any time, that's it, your character is done, his records are kept in your trophy case or whatever, but you can never play with him again. Add in some character customization, and visual scarring like in fable, maybe an injury system where you can be discharged if the injury is severe, or returned to service after recovery. Training, firing range, physical strength upgrade system(if you work out lots, your strength is increased, if you use the firing range, your accuracy is better, etc.)

You could even have multiple versions of the game, like Army, Navy, Airforce. And perhaps even have faction specific version, so you can't switch teams without buying another game. Of course they would all work together, so while people playing the Army version call in for some close air support, it would be a player playing the Air Force version that flys in and drops the bombs.
It's called enlistment, sign up at a recruiter near you! It's even more realistic though, because when you die you can't start over!

I think we should give this a go with the current PR. Maybe as a community event? Have a server where if you are killed, you are instantly kicked and someone else takes your place. You then join the end of a queue to be re-entered into the game.

I think it would be interesting to try this out.

It would fix the main issue with stealth at the moment - if you are sneaking around and kill someone, they can just type in team chat 'there is an enemy in H5kp8' or get on VoIP to their squad and your cover is blown. There is still the problem that they will just disappear from the squad list and the map, but this is game and there are limitations.

With this new 'game mode', if someone is killed by a stealthy player, no-one will know how they died and the stealth-er's cover is preserved longer.

i posted this idea since one year...i belive. this could be very interesting with mature players... but we need think always in the abuses of other people. maybe one insurgency map with "one life mode" can test this situation in public servers.
anyway i like this suggestion and the chances would open. SMBE (sorry my bad english) :)

How about this for thought instead of 1 life even tho it sounds realistic...how about if u get killed u get sent to a POW camp and its up to the team to come and rescue u...that would be fun..instead waiting to rejoin a server loading the map already takes a few minutes for some even longer

Would that not ruin teamwork in sqds? What if you SL is the first to die, then kicked off server, whos going to replace him? I doubt constant changing of sqd members will promote teamwork, probably just increase campers.

Your talking about an army life simulation game. I like the ideea of having a ranks in the game(liutenant, sergent, capatain) and having promotions like gold/silver stars etc. eventualy receiving some small customizations for your kit/weapon. But that means for all the servers to comunicate information at the end of every mach to a main server that will automatically calculate everyones point earned in game. Being discharged for injury , that's too much, this is a game not real life. Improving accuracy/strengh from training, i find that unfare and frustrating for new people that join the comunitty.(your missing a guy at 150 m away and he kills you with one shot just because he spent alot of time at training)
