Just give the pilots back their pistols so we can pretend to be Fallshcrimjagers properly.

That's pretty much the main reason they were removed.

[OD-S] have been trying out this tactic, it actually works very well on Muttrah.
Two helos, one drops a crate at top speed, the other flies stupidly high and you just jump out, it doesn't even need to fly away from the carrier. When you land at the crate, swap out pilot kits for LAT/grenadier or whatever, and wreak some havok...
I believe munchy even killed someone by landing on them, talk about death from above...

But it's all good, since they'll have a squad of parachutes in the sky pretty much asking people to shoot them.

So?
I used to take the pilot kit on maps that no one wanted to play, like Ejod in one version. At one point we had two MEC Pilot squads in tight formation in the city.
We all knew it wasn't realistic, but it didn't really hurt gameplay.
(Edit: yes, wrecking a game by having two largely unarmed squads not fighting ruined that game, but airdropping lightly armed forces didn't.)

Actually it really did hurt gameplay, especially back when the pistols were so overpowered [around 0.8]. You'd get whole squads of paratroopers jumping in, destroying the enemy with their pistols and then picking up their kits and messing everything up. It's not what the devs wanted, so they got rid of it.
Not to mention the fact that downed pilots were no longer trying to run away, but rather charging head on at the enemy, which made no sense whatsoever.

Cost of blackhawk = 5 tickets
Cost of pilot = 1 ticket
Cost of 1 full squad of paradroppers = 6 tickets
Getting in the F2 position of your technical and gunning down a BH and 6 "1337p4r4dr0pp3rs" as they slowly parachute down to earth = priceless
I can't see this working well on ramiel. The good FOB locations are all in the north of the city (near the insurgent main where tech's spawn), and the view distance is very long - meaning all 6 of the "0mfg d3lta" paradroppers will be sitting ducks as they parachute (since it takes a minimum of 30 seconds in the sky to survive the drop). The one benefit of this strategy I see that nobody has mentioned yet is that you could get a squad and a FOB in the city without having to sacrifice a vehicle.
Also, $10 says that any squad of players willing to actually try this strat will fire the miniguns indiscriminately as they fly towards their target. Weeeeeeee so much for stealth

heh: that's 12 tickets total

Paradrops in urban environments like insurgency are just stupid. consider that the streets are swarming with cheap AK47 guerrillas in highly defendable positions, and you'll see why it's a poor strategy. Either the Paras airdrop on the cache (which = immediate death) or they drop a little ways away in a highly visible show that is clearly
not stealthy. A humvee could manuever into the exact same position faster and with more firepower.

This strategy would be pure win to watch ^^. But ultimately pointless xD, much better ways of getting into the battle, including APCS etc.(as long as they carry out their purpose ). But I still would love to do this myself anyway for pure enjoyment

You can see where that got them because we all knew who won the war.
However, they took Crete using this method. Still the biggest para-drop in history I think. Very successful. They never had another good chance to use it, as the eastern front had sapped their resources.

Crete was hardly "very successful." Yes, they took Crete, but it was almost a total disaster.

This might be a resuggestion...lol idk, but why not have a special airborne kit where the parachute is one of the slots. That way you can have jumpers w/o all the trouble of issuing out pilots kits and dropping crates. Maybe just enough kits for 1 squad of airborne, but then you run into the trouble of everybody wanting the airborne kit. It might work if everyone is on the same page....

Then the Russians would have picked a fight with them.

i usually do this on muttrah, but its really only me. Para to (i think D7K6). Theres only 2 roads, that & the main coast road that the mec can use to get vehicles any farther north into E,W,N, and Docks. Get a combat-engi, mine that road, c4 it also, and your good to go. Just watch out cuz after a kill or 2 they'll usually come looking for you. This comes in handy a lot when the cobra is up so they go on the main road.

We tried to do few times this tactic onn russian servers actially. That doesnt work properly, atleast now. All these topics about pilots with guns etc. are not good, pilots are pilots. There will be good if we would have special kits - "Special Forces". But now PR is game about mainstream groups of soldiers.
Personally ME do not want to make SF kits right now, bcs there are only 32 persons oneach side. If PR will have 64 persons each team - that would be great to do such kits limited to 3-4 people. And they would have tasks which ONLY they will can do on the map and help to team. That would be great, but not now.

If the BH is going to fly low enough to drop a crate (for the "paratrooper pilots" to get real kits from) it might as well land, too, thus obviating the need for paradroppers. They should just get rid of the pilot's parachute, all it does is make people think up this kind of 1337d00d nonsense.
