Again, this is pure nonsense. The enemy being able to hear me has nothing to do with realism, the realistic simulation of actual sound does, and mumble does not do that. Mumble is not realistic so just drop that argument people.

A 1 channel system simply dissuades people from using it, making it seem useless to newcomers. TS is just as good at providing communication between SLs, the entire point of using Mumble is the positional audio, which is rarely used because nobody wants to give information or their position away to the enemy. It actively punishes people for using it, there's just so many times I've killed up to a squad full of people because somebody whispered over mumble from behind 3-4 buildings or a whole mountain(Does that sound realistic?) and I heard a 'click' sound(Often accompanies the PTT), some low background noise, or just their voice broadcast loudly despite them whispering(Because mumble isn't realistic, in case you haven't noticed by now). There's a reason why everybody says 'shut up on mumble' when you're anywhere near a possible enemy location.

The only argument people can muster for the 1 channel system is "it's more realistic", which it isn't. The actual reason is simply that they want to gloat to people they've killed and act like little retards.

I do like 2 channels but my PC takes a while sometimes to alt tab so after i find what team im on, have to alt tab go right team, can take anything from a minute to 4 minutes. If i CTD or something and rejoin on other team, alt tab sort it out. Etc Etc. Thats really the only reason i support 1 channel but most servers i go on have people just go "ARGH i stabbed you" or random noises.

that's actually a cool idea.

Realistic...

no mate

here is why

Mumble has no sound occlusion

Mumble has no quiet mode (a whisper is heard just as much as a shout)

Mumble cannot force your enemies to speak another language

1 channel can be alot of fun, especially with collaborators, but realism is not its mainstay.

So, why is 2 channels more realistic? its because of the players, I shall explain

one channel encourages people to use VOIP, and only use mumble to try and hear enemies who are stupid enough to attempt teamwork with their enemies close, wheras you can teamwork to your hearts content with 2 channels, the enemies have to listen for more standard sounds that everyone has ingame e.g. gunfire, footsteps, emotes etc.

one channel is HUGE fun if your with a good crowd, however it can be very bad if there are even 3 asshats. I stopped playing on certain 1 channel servers after a particularly nasty incident involving a player constantly using racial insults against anyone he killed or was killed by. The annonymity given to this player by none of his team standing near resulted in very angry people on my team who wanted this person removed.

Mocking, ranting, spamming etc are all the major risk of 1 channel.

also I cannot relax with one channel, when I see a player I know ingame, I like to say hello ;D one channel basically encourages everyone to maintain radio silence. I cannot get a blue, and get a report or ask or give assistance as the dead enemies nearby might hear me.

yes

Dead enemies might hear me

realism...

2 channels however

you can still hear enemies as I mentioned above, listen for gunfire, footsteps, vehicles etc

you can teamwork with your mates without constantly having to use VOIP to avoid detection. talking in to VOIP would give noise as well...but it doesnt, another reason why 1 channel does not convey realism. Theres no dickheads just using VOIP around so that they can not bother with team tactics and only hunt random sounds.

After playing with 2 channels for a while; I have decided it is the superior format that encourages what we all want in the end - teamwork in a realisticly orientated arena.

mumble IS NOT ABOUT REALISTIC SOUND

its about helping us make realistic tactics

If most players weren't so immature when being in one channel, I would consider it a worthwile alternative to two channels.

As they are not, seperate channels are the only way for me.

Will there be key bind to switch between the channels like in TS?

Like Cheditor sayed.
There are people that can't just Alt-Tab when they get switched to the other team.

2 Channels 100% if your sneaking around you cant commmunicate with people next to you with out being heard .. in REAL life you woud whisper.. in PR you hear the static of the out put and you can track down people easier :S..... yea sure its fun to Talk to enemies after u die but ... i dont know i like 2 channels better that way you can relay important information through out your team better i guess i dont know realy ..

one channel IS a bit more realistic though ... the PR mumble would have to be tweeked for certian sort of useage

I would like to know that to.
Couse moust of the time when I try to swich to apropriate channel I got kicked by PB.

And I would also like to know what team connected to what mumble channel.
I mean if I play for US what mumble chanell should I connect 1 or 2?

in real life you would use hand signals - if you want to be silent you have SL channels, BF2 voip, and text . If you are careless and noisy in mumble single channel it gets you killed.

Exactly - a major practical problem with two channels. As for working out your channel, its usually done by force centering "Is this the US channel" - great :|

Also when people get team switched it means they have to remember to alt-tab out ( if they can ) and change channels.

There is also the major job of an admin making sure that players are in the correct channel and not "spying" - trust me - this would be a MAJOR job for admins with full mumble servers. If this wasn't done then mumble two channel is actually less safe to use than single channel, as people would have a false sense of security.

interesting. i thought more players would like 1 channel because irl you can hear enemies talking. and i didnt know ppl shouting "Allah ackbar" after a successful VBIED was so annoying to some players.

None of which perform the same role as mumble, or we wouldn't be using it in the first place...

In real life, yes you would be able to hear people talking. But also in real life you would be able to hear people talking into their radios. Which you can't hear in-game.

I vote 2 channels since what we have at our disposal will never resemble realism.

I do not enjoy playing on servers where all the players are within one Mumble channel. I much prefer two channels for the reasons listed previously.

Besides, it gets really annoying hearing all the kiddies complaining when I kill them.
