This is extremely annoying as I'm playing on a wireless connection and sometimes my ping can shoot up to like 800 for a couple of seconds. Then I get kicked....

No! That's not the same.
200+ PING doesn't affect the gameplay. 300+ ping does.

well, 1 thing i experienced on my server: Ping kicker was active up to 500ms and a friend of mine joined server with 700 ping, then the server crashed while trying to kick the guy. Not the same numbers on you but maybe people are keeping this option to prevent such crashes etc. I removed pingkicker anyway.

common problem of windows. when your ping shoots up like that, its windows searching for other wireless networks.
on xp, you can turn this off by disabling the "wireless zero config" service after connecting to a wireless.
on vista, get vista anti lag, it stops windows from scanning.
on win 7 i dunno lol

My average ping is 180-250.
It doesn't make a differance, except on CQBs, in which you have to pull the trigger 1 seconds before the enemy. At long ranges it doesn't really matter.
200+ pings are just bad at CQB games like COD4 and COD WAW, for example, you should someone or you crouch behind cover but you still get killed by the guy you just shot. Then you check out the KillCam and it shows that you haven't even fired, or crouched.
On AA3 is another story... any ping above 100 means your bullets take 1 to 2 seconds to "exists", and being AA3 a CQB game your chances of surviving without a SAW gun are minimal if you get to the situation the quickest draw wins.
On PR though, as I said in the 1st paragraph, is not a problem.

You consider 240 of ping to be low, what the fuck, even 80 is a little to much...

And this is why debates about ping are generally pretty pointless. Everyone thinks that their own perception of ping against playability is the "normal" playable range.
End of the day, with a modern netcode (and BF2's, for all its faults, is) - a player with a ping of 300ms isn't going to cause lag to everyone else on the server.
A max pingkick of 400-450 is acceptable. 200 is, IMO, somewhat too low and a little unfair on players.
However - there's nothing the team can do about it, so please- politely take it up with the server admins for the server that kicked you

bf2 is optimized for players with 100ping.

You can optimize it for your ping, manually or with hitfixer
BF2/2142 Hit reg fix ( hitfixer )
I think.

Yes , but people saying 200 is bad are incorrect afaik.

HIGH PING DOES NOT LAG. Only at absurdly high pings (500+?).
High pings only make your actions be registered in the server (and in everone else's computer) a few moments later. Which is only a problem in CQB.

Usually when people lag its because of bad connection not the ping itself.
I can play with 120-150 on NA servers, but if I have that on a european one it feels laggy, thats because my router usually are alittle shaky with many connections on it at the same time, as when that happens my Ping goes higher then usual, but not because the signals takes time to actually get there but because the signals are weak sort off.

Haha, I think I remember that! I've been on the Co-op servers a lot lately. Especially TnT and Realism Co-op servers.

yes but thats YOUR ping, it only affects you. it may affect someone else to a minor degree in the form of seeing you running around like a chiken with its head cut off cause you dont know where you're going, but in genenral it shouldnt be a problem. that said i dont mind being booted for ping since by the time it happens i'm at around 800 and trying to disconnect anyways.

People with 220+ ping are usually (not always) the ones that get in and crash the Jets and Helicopters, who usually get kicked anyway...
Its not so bad if your playing as infantry / land vehicles etc, but jumping in an aircraft with anything more than optimal ping is asking for trouble, and more often than not getting it.

I often play on US servers and they're all at least 240ms for me. I only tend to get kicked by European servers where my pings greater than 300ms. Even though I wouldn't mind playing on them.
I find the settle times, distance and frequency of engagements in PR makes it far more playable compared to other shooters. What might seem like a 'high ping' to you is fine to me.
When people say "stop downloading" or "stop lagging the server" they're just showing how little they understand about pings. It's a pity when they're admins.
Gossy*AUS* wrote:People with 220+ ping are usually (not always) the ones that get in and crash the Jets and Helicopters, who usually get kicked anyway...
That only applies to our Australian servers and It's just because there's more noobs and griefers globally than there are in our relatively small PR community.
I can fly aircraft fine even on Russian servers which have latencies over 400ms.
