You still do not understand. The engine is code ....

How can you ... who do not have a license , know anything about that ?

You can criticize artists work til the cows come home, but it has no reflection on the engine at all.

C4 engine looks very impressive. Also by going by screens like this:

Looks like it has very good visual capability as well, i feel non of the skepticism that OP has.

Trust me the C4 engine is able to compete with "next gen" engines such as Crysis and UE3 in terms of graphics capabilities. Do not worry about the graphics.

What you are able to find on the net of the C4 is probably not made by artists using the "next gen" production techniques that we will be using on PR2, or it is placeholder material for the final implementation. I have made several tests to push C4's graphics, and even in its current state I'd say that it is up to par with Crysis/UE3.

What we need are more artists with the right skill set and TIME TIME TIME.

Here is an old test of mine. Mind you that it is an old old model and texture, but still. It has so many texture maps applied and all working together. I guess its not a good demonstration when you cant see the light and reflections move. But still.

And NO, non of the above is from PR2. Simply some personal tests I did. Any official PR2 content will be shown through the proper channels.

This engine is pretty fun ;)

Yeah the gravity gun demo is a good one ;)

Here are some screenshots of a competent artists work in C4, and again this is a couple of years old.

Here is some more physics based tests ...

Pablo when was the last time shiny graphiczzz made a good game look at crysis the only thing it has are graphics and COD... well that one doesnt even have graphics the surroundings are pitiful. Look at games like WoW CS half-life their graphics are nothing special but there's a huge amount of people playing them and half life is still incredibly fun to play
sorry but knocking on an unfinished games graphics is just dare I say consoler like...

I sometimes still with a great pleasure playing OFP, a game in 2001 and not worry about graphics. I like how PR looks like today. But there are so many other things that spoil by the BF2 engine . I especially look forward to new opportunities C4 in terms of physics, rather than visual effects.

The C4 engine is more than sufice for PR2.

i mean, if insurgents are in tunnel system, we can use voxel terrain to blow our way thru rubble and stuff then pew pew.

I don't believe the Voxel Terrain works that way, champ.

The "real-time" claim, I believe, refers to the fact that you can create this terrain in real-time in the editor, not terrain deformation like explosions carving the ground.

Voxel-based terrain is not necessarily deformable terrain, though it may still be possible to have terrain deformation in the engine. I wouldn't know that.

Didn't I say I agree with you? I have no idea how engines work okay this is all from a visual standpoint

Alright thanks for those pictures and stuff I kind of feel stupid for making this thread, but I made this thread concerned from what I've seen from other people that's all.

I'm not saying the PR2 graphics are going to suck but I've seen a lot of pictures and videos for the C4 engine and I'm just saying that from what I've seen it doesn't look to good, I'M NOt saying that in PR2 the graphics are going to suck cause of the graphics from what I've seen okay?

The terrain is stored as voxels iirc, but then is 'skinned' to make the surfaces, thus you get the efficiency of triangle meshes and the versatility of voxels. The fact that you can edit it real-time in an editor suggests to me that that's probably also the way it's done in the actual game-engine - although anyone feel free to correct me on this.
Editing Terrain - C4 Engine Wiki

Admittedly the demo isn't the best looking, but it nicely shows off the features of the engine, things like real-time reflections, voxel terrain + LOD, parallax mapping and dynamic shadows. I found the images in these threads show much better what the engine is capable of.

Equally the shader contest should be a good clue that it is a very powerful engine, it has a shader engine which can be used to create very complex setups (provided you know what you're doing), and this has been used to create car shaders/realistic atmospheric scattering (something many modern engines lack).

Shader Contest - C4 Engine Wiki

It's an amazing engine for the price, plus you get no holds bar access to the engine's source to make your own changes, and a forum full of dedicated indie developers.

Oh man. Imagine a night map in a forest sneaking around with your squad. All the sudden you get attacked. You hit the dirt and start spraying in the direction of the enemy's fire. To get a better orientation of the enemy's position you fire a flare into the sky only to find out that you are surrounded. EPIC!

I can take the cryengine 3 and make a giant, jagged edged smurf that moves like a horse on ice and lags like ****, hunting down giant blue squares and rectangles while dodging yellow strings.

Does that mean the engine is ****? Or does it mean that I haven't used it's full potential?

Never used it's full potential dude hahaha but listen this is all about visuals, textures, etc. I'm not saying it can't look good I'm just saying from what I've seen from other people I really haven't seen any good work from the c4 engine so far.

Which just means they haven't used the engine's potential because believe Twisted_Helix when he says it's there... C4 is on a par with almost anything on the market today, and can only get better.
