Re: contact with EA or DICE
Remember, they have new games to make, patches to make, EA to satisfy. We are waaaay down on the list. Some of the DICE developers have played the game and said they liked it, but that doesent mean they are in a position to do anything for us. If we sold 50,000 copies of bf2 EA might take an interest, but otherwise as CRF said, we work with what we've got.
Valve are particularly good to their mod makers, Crytek take a pretty active interest too, I think DICE\EA planned to at the start, and occasionally communication happens with them, but it is like a mobile phone with VERY bad reception. I dont see it as a bad thing, like Rudd said we wouldnt have this platform without DICE\EA, its just the way it is.
And remember, EA arent the bad guys now, save your hate for Activison heheh....

Ever try bribing them?
I would donate if it was possible to get some things un-hardcoded.
Starting with better vehicle explosion effects.

I wonder what interest BF2 engine today for EA? What they are planning to do with it? If we argue from a business point of view, it is still something to hide the device of the carriage, when all the long ride to Ford's. In my opinion on their side, it would be prudent to conclude a deal with mod makers. EA opens the code, mod makers undertake to use the platform BF2. EA sells its BF2, profits, and the percentage of shares with mod makers. Good deal. But this R-DEVs should be an official company. Only then, the deal would take place. The difficult thing those copyrights!

To pretty much to add to how EA is, I also know severals mods that uses the Renegade engine, which is more than 8 years old. They STILL refuse to hand out the source code for that, and I would imagine it would remain that way until EA runs out of business 30 years later or so.
But whatever, we've got PR2 completely in BSS's hands.
Edit: At least to be optimistic, EA allowed many of those mods to become stand-alone.

Well honestly the ONLY reason i purchased bf2 was after seeing a video of Project reality gameplay. So maybe if we get petition, everyone who bought bf2 because of the mod can sign and if we get enough signatures, they might give you guys something. because really, if 50k people did buy the game just for pr, then that's 500,000 dollars they made because of you guys.[R-DEV]Drav wrote:If we sold 50,000 copies of bf2 EA might take an interest, but otherwise as CRF said, we work with what we've got.

I wish EA weren't ********. PR would be epic without hard-code.
Why can't they see that it would be so so so so so so much betta with source code.. =(

Only thing EA gives a shit about is that green stuff in your pocket you call cash.ElPablo99522 wrote:Seriously? I thought EA and DICE would love the PR mod and the team because of the incredible work they've done, damn, this mod's been featured on the Battlefield 2 website also hasn't it right?

Yea. What has Activision ever done for us?[R-DEV]Drav wrote:save your hate for Activison heheh....
Well I keep hoping for the successor of the source engine. What ever that will be.

Valve is the best game company.

I found this sentence quite funny and since this is a war game forum I will put it here. No offense to the french just a good laugh.

80% of decisionmakers in corporations are not in that positions because of their smartness.

This is all sounding pretty uninformed and reactionary, corporations are not evil, they are amoral. Anything they can do which will make them money they will do within reason, conversely anything which could lose them any amount of money they will generally not do.
In the minds of the EA higher-ups releasing their source code will lose them money, therefore they will not do it.

so, isnt "evil" not one of the most comparable words for "amoral"?Jedimushroom wrote:This is all sounding pretty uninformed and reactionary, corporations are not evil, they are amoral. thats giving different names to the same thing.
man, cmon, there no objektive data or numbers about what you can call evil, but corporations are...
kicking of employes who worked 30 years for them, paying low money for hard work, destroying nature, and, to come a little closer to the topic again,
restriciting a 6 year old source code to guys who contributed to a couple of thousand sells of BF2 CD.
