This was an Army solicitation for optics for the M2. It makes it more realistic that the M2 now gets optics.

I cant find the video link right now but Ive seen deployed 50 cal with scopes before on a firing range, looked like it was standard training.
World sniping record distance was set by a M2 with scope in Vietnam war apparently
Is PKM ammo the highest commonly used calibre by insurgents

for gameplay reasons as you can't see **** with it, it is also done in real life.

AFAIK the Taliban have access to Russian/Chinese made 14.5mm machine guns which they use in a variety of roles from fire support to AAA.
