No, it wouldnt. It would end up with people adjusting their gamma on monitors just to see anything. ;)
Which kinda blows the idea of having nightmap in the first place, right?

Well that rain map on FH2 made a lot of people lagg on low end pc's, so an 2/4km map full with rain would be a lagg machine i think

just take it, as it is, a game without dynamic lightning is not made for night maps, morning dawn okay, but running around blind, because your monitors contrast is to low is just no fun at all, trust me

Wow, why all the hate on night maps? They don't suck. All I see here are a bunch of people whining silly about night maps and giving reasons not to work on them when they're indeed part of reality. I mean, I loved playing Bi Ming when it was night! What's wrong with that? And Bi Ming was pitch black... those ones suggested would be clear-sky moonlit nights. Not that terrible IMO.

You can't see far away? No more super long range firefights? Afraid of the dark? No l33t NVGs? You actually have to LOOK around to make sure no one is sneaking on you? What, that's going to prevent you from playing PR? I've seen worse.
And if some nice EOD maps are too small, you can always put them on night mode. What was amazing of night-time Bi Ming is that it felt 2x larger as a map than day-time.

Tannhauser you apparently are forgetting that this is just a game - which should be 'playable'. And the truth is Refractor engine cannot handle night maps PROPERLY. I"m all for a good night map with a decent dynamic lightning etc, but it's not gonna happen.

while i have my doubts about night maps working i would love to see one, surely it couldnt hurt to make a concept night map? If it doesnt work then you can just remove the nightnsky from the map and add a midday or dawn or something to the map.

I think they mean pitch black nights.

How would these night maps be unplayable? No offense, but have you even played Bi Ming original? From what I've seen, they're quite playable and aren't the monstruosities the masses claims them to be. :?

I still don't understand what's so terrible about not having l33t crysis-ish dynamic lightning either. I mean, is it THAT important that you have it to the point you'd refuse to play without this amazingly important dynamic lightning? And what do you mean exactly by dynamic lightning? Flares, incendiaries, flashlights and car lights? Because I don't find these to be serious requirements to functional night maps.

Vietnam without night fights is just half a Vietnam. Don't really know how they are done technically - dynamic lighting or not - but there are searchlights and flare guns on a night map in FH2 ("Operation Hyacinth"), and they work just fine (and as intended), despite the Refractor engine. Of course, the map is not pitch black, but a rather well-moonlit & starlit night, but enough to give a realistic enough illusion of a night fight. Plus, I have never seen or heard anyone complaining about graphical problems with that. I can see no reason why a similar setup couldn't work in PR:V. If the aircraft HUD/view modes are a problem, then a nightmap without aircraft should do the trick.

If night maps come to PR:V they must obviously NOT be pitch black, however there is a very nice full moon sky texture which allows the gameplay to continue with impaired vision, but more importantly - the night time ambiance.

done properly a night map would be excellent, done badly it would fail miserably.

Fortunately for PR:V it is very very easy to convert maps to night, and could even be done using only server.zips probably, so theres lots of scope.

Summer is just around the corner Rudd (found OGT edit the other day) ;)

Let's get back to work :p

Pitch black wouldnt be so great, but dusk, dawn and moonlight would be more appropriate IMO

I fail to see how moonlight isn't an option. With a full moon you can see very well IRL, I'd like to see it implimented in PR.

Oh man, I downloaded EoD to try out some things I expect to see in BF:V. (You all should do it too) and the night maps or more like dusk maps are amazing. They really managed to capture the spooky jungle atmosphere.
