I do believe a backstory to each map would help give the feeling of being part of something larger. They have to be consistent though, and make at least some sort of sense.
I'm sure most mappers have some sort of underlying story to their maps, it comes as part of wanting to make them.

Also makes it easier for new players to get an idea where the map is, what the factions motives (for the battle) are etc. As long as they aren't prejudice towards the OPFOR. They should be basic as someone else said though, only really giving information on the map itself.

Be creative, much more enjoyable if you do it right. Trust me.

I'm sorry but, just because some people would like a little briefing means they should be more creative? Not everyone in the world has to think everything up themselves. It is a lot of work, and it probably and most likely will never happen, but it isn't right to typecast people that way.

This is coming from someone who loves making a back narrative for the PR maps, one for the Australian PR campaign as well a story for a new theatre of war under works. The way some people are saying it seems as though they would be happy to make the factions generic, remove names for map locations and let everyone's 'imagination' do the work. Something as simple as a briefing on the force attacking, a small piece on each teams main goal etc. Not asking for a full blown narrative, just something to ground the level.

Yes, i think story lines would be good, not massive ones but at least some reason to why we are fighting !

Can I do Jabal? I think it would involve NATO having to move in to stop MEC's latest attempt at world domination with their devious ecological terror plot. Notice they already cut down all the trees and shrubs surrounding the city and painted the landscape all brown. Now they are building a dam to plug up the ocean!

They are actually building the dam to destroy the city, it's much more economical supposedly :-P

Yes. I think it adds to the immersion.

And what's the difference between 'No' and 'I like the way it is now' ?

I didn't vote yet because... I don't know how would the briefings connect (ie. you fight on completely different scenarios with different armies and unrelated stories probably, you know?)

Read the DEVs posts
https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... world.html

And something that was discussed before I think was actually adding some kind of guide during map loads (ie. not little tips, but more concise ones like fire formations, flanking and stuff like that, so people actually know how to do it! Perhaps even formations!) I think it would be more useful... Not that briefings would be uninteresting. I just think that as briefings will probably not correlate very much some practical information could be awesome to have.

I like to create my own Briefings so i have to say no to that.

In regard to restrictions i find briefings useful, but only when such restrictions allow for more CO deployed Teamwork.

Something small would be nice.
I remember Bi Ming had a small story, this added with the awesome Bi Ming music got me in the mood to kill many pixilated enemies.

It went something like: "PLA forces launched a counter attack but were stopped up river by a blocking force of Rangers, it is the (some division) task to defeat all forces south of the river in preparation for capturing the PLA force" like that, not too detailed.

I don't miss imaginary storylines. Current system which briefly describes game mode is enough.

I voted no, make up your own stories, it leads to more creativity and you're able to put more into the game. Remember when the Militia had tanks and fighting the British? Then it was changed the Chechen Militia, immediately the "realistic" set in, the Militia lost their tanks, and they could only fight the Russians. It was then changed back to Militia again and now we have more scenarios we can work with, including fighting the British again :) I myself make up such detailed stories for the Militia and M.E.C. I was able to use it in a college paper.

I really don't care if they are there or not.

Your answer "Yes" and "I like the way it is now" are the same thing.

But I would rather have more tips or small tactics instead of the scenario thing, I never read them.

If you what you are, then you're definitely a clueless noob. I personally do not like fighting just for the sake of fighting. I need someone to give me a reason to fight or my morale just drops tenfold. I have noticed that I function better when I get some awesome music and a good story to go with it.
