i played a bit of SL today and the GTLD was way overpowered, i rather have a bit of lag and have the multiple zoom distances.

I find the change to be disappointing. The zoom level is either woefully inadequate to distinguish T72 from M1A2 or powerful enough to fill the entire reticule with the image of the inside of the barrel pointing right at me.

At what distance is it actually useful?

actualy, to be honest ill said : "Consider you're self lucky that the GTLD do not have a LONG time of preparation to be used or force-prone sightin" cause the size of that thing... is WAY MUCH bigger than the one in PR.

I'd trade mobility for zoom levels. I only use the thing when I'm lazing anyway, gotta sit still for that.

I'd give the SL a set of binoculars as well, or somehow code it, because at the current time it's ridiculous trying to even recon a position or see whats off in the distance.

People can say 'delegate it to a squad member' but the SL needs to have a hands on view of what the squad is going into, and the ACOG or whatever just doesn't cut it.

At the moment I'd rather have binoculars over the GLTD. It's cactus.

a serviceman did mention on these forums that the GLTD isn't as common as depicted in PR, maybe we should move down the binocular route anyway,

instead of so many lazers around, we can just use the SL comrose since you can place markers reasonably accurately - i.e. giving the grid to the pilot, who can then engage.

Would definately make snipers more teamwork orientated as they would be one of the few capable of lazing

if snipers alone aren't enough, maybe have a fob depoyable lazer weapon, use teh TOW sandbag base, and make a new lazer appartus like this http://www.25idl.army.mil/deployment/OI ... DR1_p1.jpg with the soldier prone behind or something. maybe not use the sandbag base at all since it would be quite small.

possibly just have the sniper or a designated spotter/forward air controllers.

it would take away from game play to take it out of the game though. it's hard enough to get steel on target.

To use an old trailer park proverb from dis here Tenn-err-see land, "DON'T SCREW WITH IT, IT'S FINE"

Erm..

I mean, "Don't fix it if it ain't broke."

Why was it changed?

IMO, using the radio to call in CAS would be ideal. From there, the thing giving CAS should be able to handle it.

This could be balanced by making said thing made of tissue paper and snot.

i didn't get it. again if I'm not wrong what written means is that machine has 10X power zoom which you can adjust. right now only thing we have is a green painted binocular with lasing option :)

May be Rudd is right. The GLTD issue should be reconsidered and totally reshaped again. If we gonna have it at least lets have it right.

It seems to be a fixed 10X optic, which is the point eddie made earlier.

I would like to see realistic deployment of them as well, as I understand it most CAS is still targeted using grids and smoke markers/other visual aids. Obviously this happens rarely if ever in PR.

not true anymore since the SL comrose was updated in .9

you just set the distance to target, then use the GLTD to requesr cannon/missles or whatever, and a marker appears on teh map, Jet then just has to fly towards the mark and engage the target/laze

if the GLTD avaliability was revised, you'd get that functionality in the binocs minus the lazing capability.

To be honest the new one does my head in to,not the zoom but where b4 u bring up the bins and where u look thats where the binocs would,But now if you notice say your looking at a target then pop up the binocs the target as gone,so you have to look around to find it.not hard but this still does me nut in

No, it is a fixed 10x optic. You cannot adjust the magnification.

And the GLTDIII has the same limitation.

http://www.es.northropgrumman.com/solut ... ltdiii.pdf

I would also like to see less of the GLTD.

I don't give a rat's ***. If it's the way it is IRL, I believe that's the way it should be in the game......just like Huey's are only used as gunships and VIP transport in the USMC.

I was being facetious, and I didn't think you would be one of those weeping. Didn't recognize the South Park quote? :)

I belive that this 10x zoom is reasonable irl as the max range of gltd is stated to be ~20km. While in pr max view distance is 1km, as far as I know. At such short distances it just seems unreasonable to maintain realistic magnification. Just making it the same as binos would make gltd easier to operate as it seems you don't want to change to two-zoom back.

I'm not weeping. Like I said, I don't care. I want realism. That's why I started playing PR, cause I got so sick of COD4 and the hackers.

And I recently started watching South Park. Loved the Facebook episode.

Won't happen. Removing lasing ability from SL won't change behavior of people who play snipers.
[R-CON]Rudd wrote:if snipers alone aren't enough, maybe have a fob depoyable lazer weapon
This won't be really useful because if you can lase something from FOB you can as well TOW it, so people will rather go for kills.

I don't think that removing GLTD is good idea. You rarely can see people lasing targets in pub servers anyway without it lasing targets would disappear from game. IMO lasing is good beacue it's enforcing teamwork between ground forces and CAS.
