The UAV definatly needs fine tuning. I disagree with statements that the commander should lead from the front in 'real life' this is never the case and is always watching from far be it up in the air via UAV or through binos miles off.
I personally love the commander position mainly because of the UAV but in its current implementation it really sucks (when it did work that was...). I think the refuel and time to travel to target really needs tweaking in real life they can be up in the air for a large amount of time.
I think the times need to be tweaked to...
- Inital UAV deployment 5 mins
- redployment from one area to another 2 mins
- Total time before refueling 30mins
- refuel time 10 mins
At the moment by the time you get the UAV up assuming you go commander at the start of the round it runs out of fuel before attack choppers spawn therefore rendering the LASE function useless. I think a tweaking of the times needs to be made to make the commander position more popular.
Oh and did I mention how satisfying it is to find and adjust mortar fire from a UAV, one of the main reasons I go commnader you can crush everything with a compotent mortar crew and the commander operating as a spotter

I must admit that the commander job in PR is a very frustrating job on public servers.
More Authority for the commander would be appreciated.
I liked the old "Request Build order" that SL's had to use and then the Commander could deny or accept the FOB. Atleast that gave the commander a little control of where people buid.
I wonder if that could be expanded so that the commander could approve Squads using HAT, Sniper, ENG kit, ect. so that you had to be in that specific squad to be able to use that specific kit. ( im pretty sure that it aint possible to code though...too bad)
Then the commander could assign specific roles that only the assigned squad could do....it would be the end of long discussion about.....I made CAS squad first.... No i made it first!! ect, if the commander could hand out Pilot kits to 1 specific squad.
For those who think the commanders only job is to relay communication, I just think that you could use Mumble and be a SL and be more effetive. There is no Reason to go commander.
The UAV is the only Real advantage of beeing a commander but still only add to your ability to be a News-reporter apart from the Laser Designator wich is a good addition...and the fact that you can Help Adjust Mortar fire. It dosent give you the feel of actualy COMMANDING! / Making Decisions that noone else can...ect!
Commander Rally, is a really good idea and makes it meaningfull to be a commander on the battlefield.
Many people Belive that a commander has to sit in his main base smoking cigars out of harms way (apart from cancer), while working as a 1950's Phone lady relaying information.
On public servers you hardly ever see 2 Squads working as 1 (apart from when they use Mumble efficently)
With the Commander in the field you need 6 Players (2 of them beeing SL) to be able to setup a Rally point. The best part is that This rally is Continuous but ofcourse can be overrun or vanish if Commander die or run away.
Ive heard arguments on INS maps that the commander rally isnt worth it because its too weak, where I think the opposit.
1 You dont need a Crate (Truck, Helicopter)
2 You dont need to lower your weapons to start Digging it up
3 The Assault force can keep on the move if they move together and still setup a Rally on the fly.
4 It can get overrun (but so can a FOB)
5 The commander can be shot (well the commander is not assaulting so his soldiers should take the heat and the commander sit in cower spotting.)
6 It gives the Commander a feel of what is going on in the heat of battle beeing more 7 able to Deside how to proceed.
7 People want to Spawn and select new special kits from the FOB crate. (only rambo style
players think that the biggest gun wins the battle in PR INS mode, IMO every Spawnable Kit is more than enough to get a cache.)
8 you wont have extra ammunition. (Spawnable kits have plenty of Ammunition avalible to get the job done)
All this put together i think that it is a shame that i hardly ever see Commander Rally beeing used especialy on Insurgent maps. Infact ive only seen it used when ive been a commander myself....and i have to tell the Squad leaders how it works. Most people dont know it exists.

Voip -You know, I've been thinking.. what if, *cough* we take out the "send to all" fonction? I've heard so many players yelling about how annoying one or another was, no matter who it was.. no matter what you say, you just annoy people. How bout, we expend the communications, (T) or radio fonction to give more precise "To all" message. And that open the way to an entirely new post as what to put in that menu. But point is, you realise as a commander i cannot pinpoint on the map a sniper whereabout..
When im commanding I hardly ever use Voip to all since i know how frustrating it is when your talking to your Squad and the commander says something that is totaly Irrelevant to your squad. Many Commanders does this to create a team spirit which is kinda good in some cases but in most it is just making things worse.
Actualy Im writing more often to the squads (though text dosent always get the SL attention)
Im sure a few people arent aware that if you highligt 1 or 2 squads and Press B then its only that or those 2 squad leaders that can hear you ( or read you)
Same goes for Squad-Leaders that have an Urge to tell the commander about every little problem without asking to speak with you....Making the Radio chatter a nightmare.
