That IS an awesome suggestion. BUT... IMO if this is hardcoded for the PC (ex. You can't make gradual speed up like airplanes as "toggable"? (typo) It isn't THAT hard to control with Press W, let it go, Press W, let it go... Also I don't suggest crossing a bridge on foot with HMMVV cover - RPGs will take that HMMVV out for sure.

APCs are easy to control, since their acceleration is that big. Tanks are damn slow - unless they hold the throttle long enough you can keep up with it (and get an RPG ricochet!)

A workaround (best suggestion IMO) is pop smoke - works specially good with a grenadier in your squad. Run out of smoke? Quickly fall back to rearm at the HMMVV! (It drops ammo!)

Like a leapfrog.

Rifleman 1 - pops his 2 smoke grenades, falls back, rearms.
Rifleman 2 - pops his 2 smokes as the first two are built up. Goes to rearm.
Rifleman 3 - Same.
Rifleman 1 -...
Rifleman 2 -...
Rinse and repeat! Smokes are so underused in this game, IMO - they are mostly used to revive someone or by vehicles -- Grenadier kits and smoke grenades are rarely used for flanking or covering a forward assault.

I was driving along and I thought of something,

Why cant we have vehicles coast along slowly loosing speed when you stop holding W and only actually stop when you press S?
I think one BF2 mod had this.

How about W=Full speed, UpArrow = "Taxi" speed, ony for wheeled vehicles?

I don't know if possible, but its one of the options...

That is easily doable AFAIK! Just ONE number change - acceleration (desacceleration in this case).

I like this, pretty simple actually.

Hence I noted that they where expensive etc in my post...

But it is the only piratical soultion with the BF2 engine for land vehicles.

Ye I think CA attempted it but it leads to some really strange stuff. Might be possible to get it working well but from what I saw in CA it wasn't that good and from a practical point of view, the current system we have is better.

ye that one has already been mentioned and is pretty common knowledge, but this topic is more on about speeds between 0 and 100% :p
