i support this idea it would make the maps seem less like ghost towns and more like a town that had to be evacuated due to combat. like others have said it would add atmosphere to the maps and it doesn't have to be loud just loud enugh you can hear it when passing by the building or entering it.

The original barking dogs of Korengal comes to mind.... (For those that missed out, they would bark, loudly, every second of that map. It was awful) Also the TOO LOUD wind on Silent Eagle.

However, on the good side, it's like that propaganda lady in Battlefield Vietnam on that one city map. "GI. Yo guhvamint has abandined you. Dey will Nay-pawm you tonight." etc. It was cool

I support this suggestion. Something great would be a recording of Al Jazeerah or some news radio channel that can be set as an ambient sound. It's possible and I imagine easier done than many other things if only you can find a recording at least.

Would work the same way other amb-sfx work ; Dogs barking, chinese propagandist radio in vbf2, airplane sound on korengal, the music in Ramiel's secret house...

Just have someone bother taking a record from any arab Radio and edit it with audacity to give it some gritty effects, then compress-pack-export. Voila.

I thought the wind was a tank once D=

Honestly, more ambience rather than just wind and other things on some maps could help. Not really for game play but to livin up maps more. Propaganda radios would be interesting too

not a bad idea actually. additional realistic details to enrich the atmosphere are always welcome IMO. but they shouldn't be too much. some music and maybe propaganda news in some houses would be fine. but they should be destroyable.

I looooove the idea. I love it. I will thoroughly enjoy these small little "pointless" additions. If the point of the game is realism, then it will certainly enhance the experience if you feel like you're really there. Coming across these random indications that the city was once bustling with people will definitely make those long boring walks more entertaining. I remember reading a thread which suggested putting more furniture, as the houses were just empty rooms. I thought it was a great idea, if only the server/game could handle the added effects. I think what boileratt suggested is a wonderful alternative (as it seems like it won't add too much lag nor does it seem hard to code).

And if I could make a follow-up suggestion. Whenever I play with my friends and we're hopping into a chopper (like from a carrier), the SL will put on his speakers "pump-up" songs while we're moving out. And I swear, no matter how pointless it is, it aaalways gets me and the rest of the squad so pumped up. Sometimes I wish the pilot could left click or right click and the music will actually play in-game. The same way jihad cars have this mujaheddin song playing in the background when they left click (or right click...can't remember which click makes the car go boom) (sorry if it's a resuggestion, didn't do a search was too lazy haha)

i like this idea too, the guy who calls for prayer on ramiel is really cool and deffinately builds the atmosphere

Perhaps some radios can be used by the players to do something, like attempt to "hack" into the other teams network?

sure. u always can hack into networks with radios... exspecially in the us army/marine military network... >.>

It didn't feel like we are playing at a paintball arena where there is just buildings, like we are now. It felt like we were fighting in an evacuated city.
i know that some maps are still on their bf2 engine limits. but your idea sounds cool.
adding funitures to each room in fallujah - doens't work with it.

Yes they are, but I want this topic to stay on radios used to emit sound to add to the atmosphere... nothing else.

Its pointless...

So is putting 2 stripes over your car.

Its aesthetics/immersion. And things like that make the game ever better.

Some music or news wouldnt hurt in 4-5 places.

LIKE TADSAE :) .... at the china main there was a radio/tv playing some 70s kungfoo **** :P ahaha i woulnt mind like a few radios playing the Bomb car music or somthing along those lines.. or If the Devs wanted to mess around and make a generic PR radio station that could be played as a sound file in select spots alot like ambient sounds that would be awsome :P just a bit of personalisation.

like you enter an apartment building and you hear like a Tv news station in either russian... or arabic depending upon the map... and if you go neer a temple on a chineese map have ... Wind chimes :)
