I think it just comes down to personal preference and experience. For me joystick > all and hovering is very possible in helicopters. To me joystick just makes much more sense, flying a jet with mouse or keyboard is just a chore and flying helis is doable but nowhere near as agile for me.

i used to think joysticks were just a waste of money, but now that i have one, i really need it to fly, and it makes flying a lot funner too

One advantage to having a joystick with a throttle control is the ability to fly at part throttle. This is really useful in ground attack aircraft like the A10 and SU25. You can fly to your target area, throttle down so you lose some speed and can get a better visual on ground targets, then do a steep dive, fire your main gun at the target, then go full throttle and climb back up while dropping flares. Its basically how an A10 does it in real life. With a mouse and keyboard, you have to be at a constant 100 percent throttle at all times or you will stall and fall out of the sky.

well this also comes down to personal experience.
I personally can fly at half throttle very well, jsut tapping "W" all the time and looking that ts at (nearly) constant 50% throttle.

When flying Jets. A Joystick is a must. Anything less and you are just looking to waste 20 Tickets. It can out turn a Mouse all day long. Is far more accurate than than any Mouse and keyboard (Joystick type depending) setup you can have.
As for HELOS. That's a tricky one. Personal Preference is the way it is for me. I Like the Keyboard and Mouse. I Would love to be able to get used to using a Joystick for it. But I just can't get the control I like with the Joystick. In my case I would say it's the Joystick I have (very old Sidewinder Precision 2) just be able to do it nicely. I Keep meaning to buy a xBox controler for my PC. As I Have the feeling that flying a HELO with one of them would be very good indeed.
