Do not join a squad just to get the Rifle and leave the moment you get your kit, that just pisses people off.
That's something I often read here. What's actually wrong with it ? I mean, i squad lead most of time and I don't mind if someone join/leave to request sniper kit, I'll kick him myself from the squad if he doesn't leave anyway.
[Rant]I'm far more concerned about blue mobs joining, getting LMG kit, medic or any other infantry kit then leaving the squad, or doing whatever they want at the other side of the map. [/Rant]

When playing sniper, remember these golden rules:
-Never work alone without a spotter
-Doublecheck every footmobiles beyond 300m
-Relocate
-Don't shoot moving targets unless you are sure that you can hit them
-Relocate again
-As a sniper you have also GLTD, use that when necessary
-Then relocate again and that's it

They should be forming a squad with a spotter though, so they shouldn't need to.

First of all it's rude and also an exploit of the kit request system. People who do this are often going lonewolf with said kit and losing it in less then 10 minutes. It's also not even close to teamwork, that squad might wanted to get a sniper too at some point.
Make a dedicated sniper squad instead and take turns sniping/spotting with the guy who joins.
This way you can also help the team by spotting enemy with SL radio so others can see it.
In the end, if you go alone, you will rarely work with the team which is a requirement to be succesful in PR.

There is nothing wrong with it.
If you can't find a Sniper friendly squad, and you can't convince anyone to form up in your "Spotter Squad" then you have to join a squad just to get the kit, and then form your own squad.
I have never understood why people who never want the Sniper kit, and never would want a Sniper in their squad would care if someone, who wants to play Sniper, gets the kit from their squad.
Joining my squad, requesting the sniper kit and running off into the distance without even saying hello earns a kick from my squad, lonewolfing with the sniper kit in a sever should earn you a ban in my opinion, if people want to practice their l337 skills, go play COD or go into a practice server.
T.A.Sharps wrote:Its less than 2min of time, and when the guy leaves his spot will usually fill up right after with people who are stuck in a squad they don't want, or are not able to join a squad yet.
You should be joining a squad with the intention of staying in that squad, most of the time this happens at the start of the game, so after giving everyone in my squad a role and talk them through what we're going to do, someone requests the sniper kit and drops out to go fap off in the woods for the rest of the game, leaving me one man short and having to explain to the person that takes his place what we are going to be doing.
T.A.Sharps wrote: No, you would have to form up with a Sniper. You would have to be the Spotter, and get someone to play Sniper for you. It defeats the whole idea of wanting to play Sniper in the first place.
I can't imagine convincing a random person to be spotter for you.
Not necessarily, if you ask around on the server prior to the squads being created, you can usually get one or two people to join a sniper squad, and if you're good friends with a squad who play together, a friend is more than happy to play sniper/spotter alongside you.
This game is rife with people who are here because of the shiny weapons they get to play with, instead of the teamwork, if I had my way, everyone without a mic would be booted.

Ah, you make a good point. I suppose I've just been spoilt by having friendly people on TS who I can ask for stuff like that.

OK heres some facts about spotting ya can't do it in this game, in real life you tend to be able to get a general idea where the bullet is flying( ether by noting where it impacted or other means, At long distances and with the right equipment and perhaps time of day and location you can see the disturbances in the air coursed by the flight of the bullet, and then you can then adjust your aim for any discrepancies.
But unfortunately in BF2, all non tracer shots are totally invisible, and also the impact of the bullet at the distances you will be operating are also, this makes spotter impractical in this game, what the point, he can pick out targets for you but that it, he can't do the most important job and actually give you feed back on your drift or how far off you are, or where you rounds are landing. So there is little to no gain.
It good to have some one pick out target for you, but, if you in a squad why don't you get them to help you. be just as effective.
If some one what to test this out to prove me wrong go ahead, but i think im pretty right on this one.
Got to remember, this is a game, and things that work well in real life may not necessarily work in pr.

Back to the tips this thread is about

...Just like the loading in-game tips that scroll, only engage high priority targets such as Officers, other snipers, and others such as HAT crews who can really screw up your team's assets, as you then have less of a chance being either spotted and/or killed.

I am known to snag a marksman/sniper kit if/when the SL and Map deem it appropriate. The biggest tip I can give is don't setup a "l33t snip3r sq4ud", instead join one of those ground and pound inf squads and provide over-watch. You will rack up more kills, and can hold onto your "precious" longer seeing as how the medic is only 150-200 meters away and if you're actually working with your squad chances are the medic is between you and the enemy who just pwnt u. I also love being in an AR/Sniper base of fire team, watching the squad advance with that much firepower sitting on a hit will result in many easy kills.
TLDR; Work with infantry for fast/easy kills.

Use sniper only if it make sense. Some maps have a view distance of less then 400m which kind of defeats the idea of sniping, although in a city where you are hard to locate it can still be useful.
