Situation:
In current conflicts, the SVD and its cousins (Romanian PSL, Iraqi Al Kadesiah) are feared weapons in Iraq and Afghanistan. The weapon fires the same round as the PKM (7.62x54mmR) and is responsible for hundreds of coalition deaths.
Speaking of which, shouldn't a model of a tabuk rifle be done for the iraqi insurgents, and one advantage of this rifle, is that it can chamber ak-magazines (you have 30 rounds of Rock & Roll Baby!!), and is every bit as efective as an SVD, PSL, etc..., with in 600m range.
also the simillar shape of the tabuk rifle to that of the RPK and AK rifles, make it harder for bluefor to distinguish a marksman using tabuk rifle from other insurgents, giving him valuable time.
Also, regardless, of the advantages, it basically is more realistic for an iraqi insurgent to hold a tabuk rifle (or al-kadesiah rifle) than a russian SVD, and more realistic if this rifle had the same killing ability as the current in game SVD has (since it is unrealistic as pointed earlier that the 7.62x54R shot to the chest would not knock an enemy down straight away, but more realistic if this was a 7.62x39mm shot which the tabuk rifle uses).
Sorry if I deviated from the subject, but since we already started talking about the insurgent marksmen, I thought I might as well include this.

I'd be ok with more weapons on caches, though I'd also want a fewless weapons at main, weapons at main do present a problem since you have to separate your squad to get them, usually a dude with a technical will pick stuff up, but since he's got a technical he's not gonna use it.

COME ON, what does the look have to do with anything about the rifle's performance, and thats what is really being used on the ground by the iraqi insurgents.
It's not like the gun has to be aerodynamic, its a ruggid, reliable, and lethal piece of machinery, and that is what matters.

Looks like you are for this douchebaggery and "uberleet" modding.
This AK can be 50 years old and perform better than any American sniper rifle.

I understand your point, but I wouldn't get too far ahead of myself

gentlemen, this is a thread about the SVD being a pickup kit at a cache, the sugestion about the tabuk rifle is relevent, discussion of if its ugly and subsequent bollocks isnt relevent.
back on topic lads before you anger the MODs.

As Rudd has said, stay on topic. If you turn this into a vs thread infraction points will be awarded

I'd much prefer the Tabuk but there is little point when the current SVD kit is already available.

well looks you can already put the SVD in because it is already done and if people dont like it change it later when the Tabuk is done
so SVD can be a placeholder
tabuk looks like a moded AK 47M and i can imagine the recoil of it compared to the SVD

The Tabuk rifle was based on the yugoslavian M72 RPK.
from wiki: "Yugoslavian RPK or M72, is the longer barreled member of the M70 family, and is the weapons upon which the Tabuk is based".
The weapon uses the heavy yugoslavian reciever and modified internals from the yugoslavian RPK, meaning it's more accurate and experienceds less muzzle rise due to the heavier weapon and the heavier than AKM barrel (although the barrel for the tabuk is still not as heavy as the RPK barrel).
wiki: "The Tabuk is, within its given range, every bit as effective as the Dragunov or PSL if used precisely".
as for the recoil compared to the SVD, yeah, the tabuk rifle uses the weaker 7.62x39mm therefore experienced less of a recoil.

If you want Tabuk in-game, make it yourself. The DEVs won't waste their time on making a 30 round SVD clone, there are bigger priorities than that.

it pretty much is a modified AK-47, infact you can get conversion kits online

I like this suggestion, because when I am a sniper in INS I like to irritate BLUFOR troops with a SVD or something, but it takes a way to long walk most of the time to get to the cache area from the mainbase, without being shot.
And with that weapons issue: Give them some "old import" G3's with a scope which they can use for longer ranges, but with less ammo, so they don't go 1337 N1NJ4$ $n1p4.

It has a higher muzzle velocity doesn't it bro?
OT im not a huge fan... but i would love to get me some more SVDs to go buggerise around with...

Its pretty much the same ammunition. I don't know about grain count but I'm sure the 7.62x39mm and the 7.62 NATO have the same effect.
If AK's, RPK's, G3's and PKM's killed in one shot then it would be a little imbalanced, thats why it currently takes 2 shots to kill with most of those guns.

no, there is quite a difference between the 7.62x39mm nad 7.62x51.
I'm not sure if I'm explaining this right, but the 7.62x39mm is a intermediate round, while the 7.62x51mm is a full rifle cartridge. One of the differences is that russian 7.62 is used for AK type assault rifles, while the NATO cartridge is used for battle rifles, DMRs and in some cases even sniper rifles (ex. Sako TRG)
The Russian equivalent of the 7.62x51 would be the 7.62x54mm round used in PKM and SVD.

I didn't say they were the same round, I said I'm sure they have the same effect.
Rather than explaining the differences in classification, try and find if they have the similar effect on body tissue, with hydrostatic shock etc.

Up to 300m yes, the effect will stay pretty much the same, but beyond that the AK round will loose it's energy faster than the NATO round that has over twice the effective range.
Here's a comparison
