Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
Well its good to have so many people commenting on this thread. I personally believe that if given the chance that the Magazine would be successful, not just dealing with PR but gaming in general with also some off topic things. The nice thing about using an online magazine is that we are able to post video in the magazine pages. I have minimal experience with making yearbooks as I was editor of the yearebook club at my school. For the most part, summer is free for me, but come september some of us need to get back to school. So for this to work we need to have multiple people willing to do this.
The one thing that the magazine will trump the forums in is, ease of navigation. I've included a sample online magazine for people to look at. â$¢â$¢â$¢ iMotors â$¢â$¢â$¢ Your Only FREE Irish Online Motoring Magazine That will give a general idea.
Another thing that the forums isn't great for, is that some threads posted get pushed aside. How many people here don't actually go INTO the sections of the forum and only look at the threads with the most activity or the newest? I'm one of those people. Once that happens some important threads get pushed aside and may be forgotten.
@dtacs, if you want to get started again, we'll see how many people are interested in helping out. We really only need the editors to have InDesign as columnists and journalists etc, just need to right up a basic PDF file and give it to us so we can format it with photos and layout etc.
@psychickactivity Thank you for letting us use WHO! interviews. If the magazine gets started then we can contact you.
The main concern I see is that PR by itself won't give enough "filling" so to say, of the magazine. To iron out this problem the magazine could also have things like, news in the gaming world, some travel ideas. Of course to actually get this to work we would need ads to be placed in the magazine. (cover the cost of hosting it etc etc etc).

Uhhh, you could ask somebody who owns a website to host the magazine files for you.

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
well... I'm assuming that you've looked at the sample magazine I've posted. Using that company to host the magazine does cost some money. Not alot as it's basically just software. But I'm just saying, we could make the PDF files downloadable, but it wouldn't look very good.
Thank you psychickactivity for giving us that link, it's given me access to the platform they use to host their magazine which I believe is free. (?) I do like the way they have formatted their magazine, and I encourage any members who don't like this idea, to take a look at their magazine. (although it's french) it shows us what could be and what can be done, in regards to this small subject. Also it allows to show how we can bring the outside world into our world so to speak
.
EDIT: the hosting isn't free it's $19 a month (US)

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
You can host it anywhere, no reason to pay for it really.
Another idea could be a PR Podcast. A "talkshow" about PR, have guests on the show (community members, teammembers (dev, con, com, mod, etc.)), broadcast interviews with [name here], talk about an upcoming PR version (or one that's just been released), talk about new/held events, talk about what you would like to see, discuss the result of polls, other BF2 mods, progress of PR:ArmA, etc.
Don't be afraid to wander off and talk about your wifi-connection, or even your pet. As long as it doesn't take up too much time, it's fine, keep things healthy and fresh.
I think -talking- about it (and listening to it
) adds something "unique", something you don't find on the forums.
Could just be a 30 minute show, weekly, bi-weekly, etc. Just talk, see where it goes. Plus, you don't need "rules", you can adapt the concept of the podcast anytime.

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
AAR section where people can submit a dramatic account of a PR round or something. Obviously cover the PRT when it runs or PR major events. Do ads for PR Community events and servers hosting special nights etc. Interview a DEV every now and then etc etc. Not hard to make stuff up.
Hardest part is running it cause its easy to have the ambition but to follow through means being serious. Its hard enough to be a serious PR player, to have a clan or a team, to show up on a weekly practice, but to stay a casual gamer and run something like this means a certain sacrifice and dedication.
Making a deadline would require a ruthless leadership. You wouldn't be able to let someone whos a friend drag you down cause you can't tell them they screwed up and didn't come through.
I think the idea of what to do with the magazine or podcast doesn't need proofing or brainstorming right now. What you need to do is figure out if you have the people to put together a self sustaining team that will actually commit to producing a quality release once a month. Get the guys together, figure out if they can really do it and not just say they will, then plan out 4 or 6 issues with space for updates and ideas as they come, then try and see if you can even make one issue without it going boobs up.
I'd happily be involved depending on how its run. Just gotta figure out whose actually in charge. Organization is the key in anything that relies on pooled effort and a deadline.

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
AfterDune and PFunk have very good points. I'm now curious to see how many people would rather have a podcast instead of a magazine. Please comment giving us your choice, and reason. Also podcast would be easier to make, plus it can be put on things like iTunes.
And can someone add a Poll to this? for "Magazine" "Podcast" or "Other" thanks

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
I think the Podcast could be much more workable as it doesn't require nearly as much setup time and coordination, and brings news and info about PR in a non print form. Just find the right people to host it
.
Interviews, spotlights, discussions, random banter, it has a lot of potential...

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
You could pick one and then once you get the ball rolling consider doing the other. The magazine is obviously harder but would be more interesting since you can scroll through it more easily and pick which bits you wanna read. Podcasts can be hard just cause you have to make your whole recording interesting throughout and if it drags nobody will listen even if it gets good later.
Polls are all well and good, but public opinion doesn't drive the creation of anything. Once you get the group together thats where the real decisions are made and the real progress comes. Someone has to take control and get it started, with the poll info as a guide and all the rest of the **** we keep saying.
Podcasts could scare off contributors. I know not ever dork likes what his voice sounds like.
Maybe that could be a good thing though.

Re: PR Magazine maybe a go....?
I would like a podcast very much. I wouldn't mind if the magazine is the outcome however.
