Most of those dells are XPS/Alienwares and you can't adjust anything with a dell bios(FSB, Memory Timings, Multiplier, Voltages, etc) its locked.

YouTube - Q6600/Q6700 + Dell Dimension E520

it says q6000 works fine (not supported by dell officially) with 2.4.0 BIOS.
Also 2x2048MB (4096MB total physical) memory sticks would work better then the 3GB you have.Is it 3x1024MB or 2048MB + 1024MB ?

i actually have 4gb of ram, but my computer only says i have 3gb, so i just assume thats all it uses, its two 2gig sticks. Also, i know my motherboard can support the q6600, but the plan was to overclock it when i got it, because the 2.4ghz clock is pretty low for any games that dont use all 4 cores, so i suspect with game like avp and battlefield 2 and stuff, i would actually see a performance decrease, also, just say i were to get, since i am unable to do any overclock, will the stock heatsink be ok, or should i buy one of those arctic cooling pro ones? thanks
