if i remember right one megabyte is 1024 bytes but a megabit is 1000 bits, and bits is binary, i think bytes is hexadecimal.
but i know im forgetting something....
anyway, the fastest i have ever had a torrent run is 500kbps, and i normally run 1mbps - 2mb per second on flieserve, but i guess if their is a pre-realise torrent, really dose not matter to much...
1 byte = 8 bit, that's how simple it is.

Besides, I don't get why people think it's so much slower with torrents than with direct downloads? Both theoretically and, at least for me practically, it's way faster than direct download.
