Not to take any courage away from anyone thinking about starting a new server. Running a server is more then a full time job. If you don't have the time don't bother trying. When RT was created I know that Space spent the day on the forums, writing posts, discussing rules, marketing the server, and he spent the night seeding and admining it. He spent 10-16 hours on the project every day for 2 months, just to get it started. When he stopped (the marketing) it took a lot longer for the server to fill, then after some time it just died. When we relaunched the RT server 3 weeks before 0.9 I spent at least 10 hours every day, and I had a lot of help, and we did it, it was full every night for several weeks (until the e-drama). You can manage to do it, but you must be prepared to spend the time. You need one leader and one only or nothing will be done. If the server is full people will join, and of the game-play is good they will join the next time.

When BF2 1.5 and PR 0.87 were released, people started disappearing from Mumble. I think the ALT-TAB bug was to blame, and then awareness about the fix for it never reached out enough.

I think most of the responsibility for encouraging mumble use on ANY server is clans and these groups of people who live in their own little bubble. often on servers there can be like 6-15 clan members on a server and not one on mumble if all of them did , people would see that and would be encouraged to join. As for these little groups of people (you know who you are) often going into a server all of them on TS and locking the squad practically isolating themselves from the rest of the server just doesn't help teamwork at all. So if you people could get your backsides onto mumble, aswell as your teamspeaks , it would help encourage mumble use and teamwork ALOT.

TG is paying DEV members to keep it that way. Fight the Sistem! use AIM and MSN during gameplay TEXTING IS REAL LIFE !!! lol jk,

Im a member of the HOG Muttrah 24/7 community and I have repeatedly asked our clan leader to get intouch with "Epoch" about setting up a HOG channel on the mumble server and they do not respond to Pm's anymore. I dont spass out, I asked politely and waited. It has been 4-6 weeks waiting on this. They Fact the Epoch and Linkman(Hog clan leader) cant talk has Killed this movement. I had 23 guys download Mumble pr edition and we used empty channels to set up and test and joined empty channels only to have a kid come in and talk to everyone and made half leave. I dont understand why Epoch is so protective when 80% of the channels are empty and all I am asking for is kick/move rights to keep Muble PR Edition going. Its a great program but red tape by Epoch and Linkman(hog clan leader) have kept anything from going. I Know Epoch is doing the right thing by holding off with this but after 3 more PM's he doesnt even respond? WTF talk about killing the excitement. I hope the admin that reads this will simply state, "xambone we will work with you to encourage teamplay and build up a more versitile community asap, here is my AIM screen name or a vent channel or meet me on mumble blah blah blah.... " But im sure Rhino will just delete, OR move omg please dont move my post again :(

I am 2 steps away from getting this going for 64 people and im help back by a failed program. Seriously after looking at Pr edition mumble its clear its not working. I am sorry, to Epoch for lashing out at him in public but it has gotten to the point where its not proving to effective to go thru the channels anymore???

please help

A few more points....
  • 2 vs 1 channel system.
This again in my opinion is a community splitter. While RT had a 1 channel system and did fine it is a deal breaker for some players. What you essentially make the split between is much more serious teamwork-based play or 'fun' which has a different meaning to different people. If you want to attract a more serious mature play-style then go 2 chan. 1 channel if you want more relaxed play.

In my opinion having 1 channel completely negates the point in using mumble in the first place, people tend not to use it when near enemies in fear of being heard and leads to childish taunting etc. But that is going off-topic..
  • Having clans populate.
This is a double edges sword. While it is the easiest solution to 'recurit' clans to help populate, stacking becomes a huge problem. Averages Joe PR player does not want to play in a server full of clan members on one side/ only have (locked) clan squads on his side.

Stop Fussing everyone!

UK Warfare will be hosting mumble weekends EVERY weekend. No fuss 1 channel system, except squad leaders in 1 and 2

This is a very good point and why 2 channels should be the way to go.

I agree this is a problem if you have only a few clans or big clans being part of the server's "community" but tbh what you want is lots of little clans to help populate the servers and this way you get a few clan squads each side. Also little clans would be much more interested in going down this rout as they most likley can not afford a server of there own.

We need a mumble server for every day of the week, at least at peak times for EU times if not more.

Epoch is a very busy man, I assume your clan leader (or some one) has access to server admin forums, post here:

https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f109-p ... annel.html

Get your channel added, its easier and quicker than PMing DEVs who are busy/receive alot of PMs.

strong leadership is the key, having spent a short period in the RT admin team I left very quickly as there was too much talk and not enough action;

the kind of team members you need imo

1) a group of ingame admins who agree on the kind of gameplay the server should have, set out a TG style declaration of what is expected of players and admins. (by tg style I don't mean copy TG, I mean just publicly state what the server is about) Too often admins fall out because they didn't actually agree what the servers should have been in the first place.

2) at least 3 people who can restart the server when anything goes wrong

3) a web guru who can get your website running with forum, don't make loads of sections until its warranted or it'll look empty.

4) a couple of dudes perhaps from groups 1-3 who can moderate that forum.

just don't kick non-mumblers until the server has filled guys...a script to remove them would be fantastic if possible as Rhino said. Perhaps at 62-64 players a non-mumbler would get removed whenever a mumbler joined.

having reserved slots from the get go would also be good imo.

I'd be happy to be part of such an effort, but I'm going away for a while :P

Not that this really matters to me as I don't play on Euro servers, but I can't stress the importance of two channels enough.

Like I've said I would avoid doing a separate website/forums, would just do everything on the PR servers unless you are really looking at making a new community like TG but really I would just get a decent server going. You dont need a website/forum to get a popular server, of course you need to get the word out there but the PR forums will do that better than a separate forum.
