No more need to wait for Area attack to get rid of the castle FBs!! The mortar is really something Insurgents needed for a while, its basicly the only weapon they have to take care of well dug in Bluefor. Im hopping there will be atleast 2 of them available tho.
Maybe one will do just fine if the rate of fire is good enough. Either way its going to be epic thats for sure.
Even on maps like Kashan or Beirut. The possibilities are now close to endless. The ability to fire mortars from discrete locations straight into the action is just marvelous!

Who isn't going to want to man them is the real question here. It's a new asset, and while it may have a learning curve I'm sure everyone will jump at the chance to man the pit.

Some one who doesnt like spending quality time with people they love .. who wants to sit around in a hole holding onto a giant pipe shoving small objects Indo the opening and watching them fly out

. . . . . Some one .. like .. YOU! . . . But for real i dont see morters being super effective unless there are alot of people playing on the server to sight and call in attacks. other wise its going to be like the HMG ... who likes to man that ?!??! no one thats who lol ... most of the time the Hmgs just give away the FOB location lol more than actualy defending your position

Its going to be an interesting thing to witness

Count me in! If i get the chance to man one of them, i'll do it all round long no problem.

Quite the contrary of HMG positions, mortars will actually be able to fire beyond sight (be it over objects, terrain or past the LOS fog) and will (assumingly) be able to turn 360 degrees. The only thing you need is to be provided with the data to co?rdinate the shots!

LMFAO, I can already see the tards giving you coordinates right on the mortar, LOL! I hope it doesnt have a 90 degree angle!

When I play(ed) FH2, all I did was launch mortars, mostly because I was not quick enough with the bolt action rifles, but then I started enjoying it.
I sure as heck will take a turn manning the mortars in PR.
My only concern is that people will just spam coordinates, and all get mad if I cant put the rounds downrange fast enough. :/

It depends.....I am really itching to try out the new tanks and APCs that are all over the maps. But those mortars...they look so freaking cool sometimes.

Yup.
Anyone whos been in my "hideouts" squad understand the value of support squads.
I just wish there was some kind of standardized and maybe simplified (to fit PR) artillery/mortar radio procedure -> see this for what I mean:
US Armored Cavalry Radio Communications in Vietnam - Artillery Support
rather than people simply blindly calling for mortars like a nest of hungry hatchlings.

I'll use it to catch up on my reading for class. The downtime between fire missions should be good for a page or two

Im sure other people are like me, but sometimes I feel like playing PR but not in such an intense role as a frontline infantry man. Sometimes I like to do the less stressful jobs like supply runs, helicopter transports, or watching an IED from a hidden spot. Manning a mortar will be a perfect job for those times when Im feeling well.. lazy. I know im still contributing, all of those jobs are very important but alot of people find them to be too boring. Not me, Il save my running and gunning for the weekends lol. Working in close coordination with a spotter firing mortars sounds like a really satisfying thing to me.
Also, Im glad the devs didnt make a mortar system like FH2 that allows you to see where your mortars are falling. That just leads to way too much noobishness. In PR the ONLY way you will be able to succeed with mortars is to have a spotter.

i wont. im just a pubber, and no one ever actually works together. i figure im going to get teamkilled by them a few times, but i'll never see them used effectivly.

Pubbing and PR dont mix very well. Find a server thats nice to you and become a regular.
I think best way to do it is to have a dedicated squad of 3-4 people manning the mortars as they go up. I am sure the SL will get his spots filled. Some people cant fathom spending 20 min on the flightdeck untill transport is needed, yet many do.

Notice how the importance of the Sniper kit has increased with the deployable TOWs & upcoming Motars
