Current rig: P4 2.8 (oc'd to 3.15), ATI HD3650 512 AGP, 2gb DDR, win xp sp3, IDE drives
I only crash half of the time, have set my textures high , but lighting is at med, and shadows and DL at low( although sometimes med)....
9 days I'll have this:
AMD Phenom IIx4 955 Black edition 3.2ghz, 4gb DDR3, Asus M4N75TD mobo, SATA drives, win xp sp3 and (for a very short time) Asus EN8400gs 512 ddr2 pci-e(replacing with a 1gb nvidia, maybe ddr5 in a week after)
Once I have the 1 gb gpu, it should be alright?

this was fixed ages ago, its a faulot with your shaders thats all,
delete your bf2 cache and re optimize shaders on full settings.

worst thing you can ever do,
merging ATI/AMD technooliges with INTEL/NVIDIA.
uber fail and memory fail

fyi the high texture crashes are a problem with Vista/Win 7 compatibility
neither side (Dice nor Microsoft) ever decided to fix it

I have used AMD/Nvidia combo for years (over 3 total rebuilds, probably over more than 7 years), never had any problems appart with high textures on BF2, and my machines have always blown the socks of my freinds AMD/ATI combo with similar specs.

I could run all high on BF2 with my 8600GT before.
But I upgraded to 3GB of RAM from 2 and got an ATI 4850.
Ever since that upgrade, I would ctd on mapload with high settings.
I don't think this will ever be fixed as I've already tried almost everything.

There is nothing wrong with an AMD/Nvidia combo it just dosen't make much sence. If your going for a budget CPU you might as well go for a budget GFX card that shares the same technology as AMD and ATI are made to work in harmony with each other. At the end of the day, Intel and Nvidia still make better CPU/GPUs but are far more expensive generally speaking.

I also take it you upgraded to Windows Vista/7 at the same time as your RAM/GPU upgrade? Windows Vista/7 has a much larger overhead than XP and as such, it uses more ram leaving less for BF2 or other programs to use which in turn, will mean its more likley that your PC will run out of memory.

Actually, that means i'm lucky in two aspects.
I have no crashes on High for Textures : 1
I don't crash using my X-Fi to the fullest : (This usually leads to a BSOD for 90% of the population it seems, at least on W7. D

my problems with high textures are either almost no textures loading and lots of artifacts, and when they are slightly lowered i sometimes get crash at next round loading screen.
i am using a core i7 920
6 GB ddr3 1600mhz
4870x2 2GB gddr5
Udr3- gigabyte mobo
OS : windows 7 32bit ultimate.
none of the above mentioned problems occur in vBF2.
