I am still having this problem, and not just in night maps. I tried making another map (a daytime map), and the black patchs appear on the terrain. It seems to replace certain textures, such as mountains or mud. What am I doing wrong?

I can't figure out what is wrong. I rendered lightmaps on low with the following settings:
rem ******** Lightmap Generation Settings ********
if v_arg1 == BF2Editor

LightMapGeneration.init
LightMapGeneration.GILightsBaseDir 0/0.33/-0.66
LightMapGeneration.GILightsIntensity 0.33
LightMapGeneration.GILightsShadowIntensity 1
LightMapGeneration.GILightsFov 45
LightMapGeneration.UseGITopLight 1
LightMapGeneration.GITopLightIntensity 0.1
LightMapGeneration.GILightsViewDistance 10
LightMapGeneration.skyWhite 0.3
LightMapGeneration.numberOfGILights 8
LightMapGeneration.sunLightShadowIntensity 1
LightMapGeneration.sunLightFov 2
LightMapGeneration.sunLightIntensity 1

endIf
It looks fine in the editor but in game, the terrain looks ugly and has black patchs all over (Also, I set the object texture to woodland, but in game it is desert). Here are some screeshots of the problem:

The textures look fine from far away, but when you get closer or zoom in the black patchs appear.

Oh.... I know the problem now! Did you editor happen to crash while saving? Go to your layers folder for texturing in the editor, then click on each of your layers. Make sure your detail textures and color textures are still assigned, because this happened to me, but fortunately I figured it out.

I think this might be it, I remeber the editor crashing during saving at one point (can't remeber when though). I can change the detail textures, but when I try to change the colour textures the colour texture on places where I have already painted does not change. Do I have to repaint the whole map to get it to work?

No.... not if I recall correctly. Worked fine for me, the color texture should change. I always change my color texture if it looks horrible from a distance.

When I change colour textures in the editor, nothing happens and it stays as the old colour texture.

It looks like there is no change, but that's because you already have the detail texture on top of it. Change render mode to texture mode to see the difference.

Even in texture mode nothing changes.

sorry just double checking your not doing a 1024x4 map by any chance?

If not try going into your levels folder/mapname/editor/lightmaps, colormaps, detailmaps, lowdetailmaps and make sure all the lightmaps, colormaps, detail maps, low detail maps have been saved into your levels folder properly. It might be missing a couple of files hence why your getting black in game and not in editor.

When working in editor it uses the files from levels/yourmap/editor

Thanks! That fixed the terrain.

Now my undergrowth is all weird though.

If I delete the undergrowth layer and recreate it, will it keep the painting? Or is their an easier way to fix this?

Hmmm..... in the tweaker bar, did you set terrain sun color and terrain sky color? And if so, did you set a value for the undergrowth under "terrain color match"?
