But this requires you to use plugins and is also limited to just Arma 2, Of course you can download plugins for other games aswell.. but mumble was designed to be used in game for the sake of positional audio without having to go through hoops to get it. Just start mumble, then start BF2 and hop it will link. No extras required.

Though except for Positional audio I prefer Teamspeak 3, easier to work with..

Well, if the DEVs put together a packaged TS3 and positional plugin installer, the argument would be the same.

I'm pretty sure vanilla mumble doesn't automatically find your games and give them positional audio, it's a plugin.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

So the devs need to go through the trouble of figuring out how to integrate positional audio and a squadleaderradio into their mod directly, to safe you the emotional distress of feeling like a piece of software is forced on you.

It's a plugin that's been previously made and is packaged with mumble on download, so it practically does. :)

If TS3 had a plugin for BF2 then you could do that, but there's also benefits of mumble like it's low-latency audio transmission, the ease of running a large server like the PR team is currently doing (which makes it easier for any player to join the proper channel, instead of having to get the ip and etc for a specific TS server).

Thread tl;dr: There's really no advantages of using TS3. There are a few ways to give TS3 some of the benefits of mumble, but there's reasons why mumble trumps it in this case. On it's own, however, TS3 is useful in it's own ways; just, in game, mumble has more useful functionality.

Mumble is dead, deal with it: Its a great idea and has allready been developed in-game with ARMA 2 for example.. so I see no need for 3rd party nonsense .. Mumble is dead, long live mumble.

What are you even saying.

Also, TS3 is 3rd party, please go look that phrase up.
Neither Mumble nor TS3 is dead-you deal with it.

No they don't. They could reverse engineer Mumble's plugins, which would be "easy as shit". But there might be some licensing issues in that case. As for the "Squad Leader Radio", Teamspeak has a great whisper system that could easily duplicate PR Mumble's "Squad Leader Radio".

Yep, good to mention it Tartantyco.

We are able to change core things in Mumble, like settings and behaviors that I doubt it would be possible to do in TS3. That's so people can hopefully have an easier experience with it.

And new PR:Mumble with 1.2 base code is coming ;)

is it positional... no and can i be arsed to put a key bind to every different server's SQL channel.... no. Therefore usless. Also mumble has positional audio which is already set-up unlike TS3 which u need to make a plugin. Also all i need is 2 key binds for mumble, also with mumble you can see whos talking.

Simple, mumble is open source, for a development team I'm sure people can see how this would be preferred to a closed source program.

The ACRE mod is limited to ARMA 2, yes. Teamspeak 3 plugins in general are anything but limited. Their whole purpose is to add greater functionality to Teamspeak 3.

What 'hoops' are you talking about? If the ACRE mod was as basic as the BF2 plugin for Mumble, it would be just as useless, and just as simple.

Mumble's "Squad Leader Radio" is not positional. If you don't know what you're talking about, please do some research. Mumble does use a plugin for BF2. It is called bf2.dll.

Teamspeak 3's whisper system allows you to whisper to channels relative of your location. This can be used to set up the "Squad Leader Radio" no problem. All we need is a bf2 plugin, and were set.

Lol TS3s Positional Audio is pants compared to Mumble, incredibly difficult to use, when mumble is just configure>audio wizard done for life.

Poli how is mumble dead? PR Mumble Server has hundreds of people in it...

Does no one know how this stuff works? The bf2.dll gets your position from in-game and compares it to others in the Mumble server. Depending on your positions relative to each other, the volume/source location is changed. So when you do "Setup 3D Sound" in Teamspeak 3, that whole screen will be managed automatically by a plugin. Just like it is for Mumble, just like it is for ACRE.

I'm pretty sure TS3 could do a lot of what Mumble does in regards to positional audio, as I indeed used ACRE and it works fine.

Since we have 2 team members that work on Mumble and Mumble being open-source, we can do more with it, that's all.

Once Mumble can automatically move player's channels so "Team 1", "Team 2" channels are accurate, it might be worth using. But using it solely for positional audio? I'd rather just use in-game VOIP + chat and my TS3.
