Re: The Concept of Convoys / Do you like em?
There are a few rules of convoy escort (real life), which if followed would help convoy survival in game immensely. It probably won't work on a public server, but if a clan gets together and practices..... their performance should improve greatly.
Rules:
--Plan--
Plot your routes, alternate routes, and rally points. Every driver needs to be informed (inex. "Red route", "Blue route", etc.).
There should also be a designated convoy leader and secondary (spread out, not in the same vehicle
).
--Convoy make-up and organization/vehicle placement.--
Combat vehicles in front, middle, and rear. If an ambush takes place, vehicles who have already made it through the kill zone push on to the rally point.
Vehicles in the kill zone fight their way out, while the rear combat vehicles provide fire support assistance. They then take an alternate route to the rally point.
If a combat vehicle has thermal, it should be up front. Occasionally stopping the entire convoy and scanning what's up ahead can save the whole column an unnecessary fire fight.
--Spacing--
Spacing! Important in a road march, line formation, patrol, and even more so in a vehicle convoy. If your driver keeps tailgating the vehicle in front...... smack him, it will save all of your lives (25-50m).
--Scouting--
Good snipers and choppers of any kind? Listen to them and use them (in a capacity other than killing).
Real life, calling fire on a waiting ambush site is a good thing; Game-wise, wait until the convoy has already re-routed and made it to or close to the objective .

there was already a gameplay for this called V.I.P back in the day and it was on al basrah.
little bird jeeps and armor was used. the concept was you had to deliver this black suv across the map and if you successfully got it to the destination you won. The car did respawn, i thought it was mad fun but it obviously fell through.

i love convoys, they are so easy to trap and explode, but they are rare.

To be honest though, if you are getting killed while doing a convey, you are doing it wrong.

This is very true. Never would work on public considering its even hard to get people to follow the objectives let alone something that involves this much teamwork.CBCRonin wrote:There are a few rules of convoy escort (real life), which if followed would help convoy survival in game immensely. I only play on Tactical Gamer servers, and there's usually always a good Commander on that will set up a Convoy.

Re: The Concept of Convoys / Do you like em?
Haha yeah I was leading the convoy in my stryker, lots of humvee too, that was an epic roundmyles wrote:I rember on Tactical Gamer about 3 months back (0.91) on Ramiel. Our commander orderd us to go in a massive convoy to the known cache we got the first one with no deaths and killed around 20 insurgents.
The only squad that wasnt in the convoy was a 4 man recon squad that looked for the unknown cache and found the preisce loaction ofthe known caches. We all went back to main after every cache taken and moved out when a cache was either suspected of being in a certian area or was officaly marked on the map. We were on our 5th cache when the commander left the game.
and soon after that we were struggling to get the last 2 caches but evantully got them.
So in my opion convoys work very well!

Re: The Concept of Convoys / Do you like em?
depends on how they are guarded..If properly escorted it is a very effective tactic.
