How about [T] for team-play ..or.. [R] for realism ..I dunno. Maybe some clan already has that as a tag, though I haven't seen it yet.goguapsy wrote: EDIT: APPARENTLY THERE CAN'T BE THE # SIGN ON A NICK NAME. WHAT SHOULD WE HAVE, THEN?

Re: Want to organize a casual group [not a clan]
What you described is basically what I'm in with "the freelancers", theres only 4 of us so hardly a big group, but we dont tend to do anything 'clan like', just pop on public servers every so often. I must say i do prefer it to a clan, it gives much more flexibility.
But another way you could do the same sort of thing, is to just join the same server every time you play, normally there'll be a core group that joins the server, and you can normally stick with them =], may take a few plays to know who stays and who hops, but once you find a group it makes it much more fun.

Yeah I wanted something that didn't remind of a clan tagrspaulding wrote:How about [T] for team-play ..or.. [R] for realism ..I dunno. Maybe some clan already has that as a tag, though I haven't seen it yet.
Maybe the % sign? Or any other small one?
Worst case we can take the [T] you suggested.

Well the point would be running into random server and finding random people with this tag. So you know you can trust them even though you never played with them before, you know?Pedz wrote:But another way you could do the same sort of thing, is to just join the same server every time you play, normally there'll be a core group that joins the server, and you can normally stick with them =], may take a few plays to know who stays and who hops, but once you find a group it makes it much more fun.

Re: Want to organize a casual group [not a clan]
Alternative to the "#" in your TAG: use "]||" (close bracket, pipe, pipe) before your name.
e.g. ]||myname
Very few people use this and it's not a clan. Looks good on-screen too.
It did occur to me to expand this to show what sort of function you were interested in. They should all work as part of your name. This is just for interest's sake...
]|| = All types
]|- = Infantry
]|+ = Air
]|> = Armor
...as a shortcut so you know if your buddy is going to help you in your specific function.

I like that. May I suggest, though (since apparently you can't put pipes in the Prefix, which is weird)...doop-de-doo wrote:]|| = All types

# ---> That's the "tag"
| ---> That's the Infantry specialty
+ ---> That's the Air (sky)
> ---> That's the armor (ground) specialty
|| ---> That's all specialties
I mean, I prefer infantry and armor, so I would just put #|> (as opposed to #||, which might imply I'm good at air).
I like that. Will try it now.
As of now, I'm #||GoGuapsy
(Figured out you can actually put the # on the prefix, just not in your nickname. I believe it looks better than tha ], but that can be just me).
If everyone agrees with this (or suggests anything) I can create a page on the "clan" forums explaining what is this and how it works, stating clearly this is not a clan.
And we gotta name this. I mean, "The Tag" for the forum thread name? "Squared Away PR Players"?
Meanwhile to add this to your name, you must go on Documents->Battlefield 2->Profiles->Global and change the "GlobalSettings.setNamePrefix".

You can. (Holding Alt while typing "124" may give you the same pipe I use.)goguapsy wrote: ... (apparently you can't put pipes in the Prefix, which is weird.) ...
If all these characters are in the prefix, you will be able to change them without needing to re-create your name.
e.g. #|| Myname
Call thread "Serious player (insert word here)".

Re: Want to organize a casual group [not a clan]
I personally don't think that it has to be THAT complex. All we want to know is "Are you in?" I think a simple tag -- preferably one that doesn't require people to know the alt+ codes -- would do just fine. You can sort out what function you want to serve once you're playing. The simpler, the better.. the more thought people have to put into it, the less likely they are going to even bother.doop-de-doo wrote:It did occur to me to expand this to show what sort of function you were interested in. Well that makes sense.rspaulding wrote:I personally don't think that it has to be THAT complex. All we want to know is "Are you in?" I mean, what if you could simply put the #, but, if you want, you can add the other codes?
I mean, whatever best. I think both are good. The "extra" tags would simply give the resum?e about you, you know?
But we just gotta get to a conclusion about this.

Yes, the extra characters should be optional. And the main tag should be distinct and easy (no alt+codes). You said # doesn't work?goguapsy wrote:Well that makes sense.

That's because I missed the big "INSERT PREFIX HERE" box in the log in screen
OK, if that's fine to rspaulding, because this was his idea, you know. "Serious Player Tag"?doop-de-doo wrote:Call thread "Global Serious Player ID" or "Global Serious Player Pass."`

Re: Want to organize a casual group [not a clan]
I plan to add this "#" to my clan tag (I have an extra slot for 1 more character).
It would mean that I am serious about my role.
I still think the extended tags should show interest, rather than qualification. If an unexperienced (but serious) player decides to use them, they will not cause harm.

The "|" (pipe) character does requires that people edit their battlefield login settings file which is a bit of a hassle. Exchange it for "!"BloodAce wrote: ... How about something less coded? ...
I don't think it needs initials (ABC, TWR, etc.). It's too big and confusing amongst the rest of the tags.

I like the idea a lot. I am not in any clans but I put [PR] in front of my name as to let people know I am more serious into the game, however I really like the idea of a symbol instead showing inf air armor, I am all for this idea and I say we try to set something in stone soon.
