engine limitation, obviously the best option we all see and even the devs probably saw was that we can shoot and if necesary start stabbing within the same weapon slot, however due to the BF2 engine being unable to fire two different projectiles from the same weapon, it is impossible. problem with beyonets are it's not something you fumble with in an emergency to use, it's something you prep before you need it.

Tbh it's such a small part of the game that it shouldn't have much time spent on it - you run out of ammo and an enemy is rushing towards you. So what? If you're playing PR Properly one of your 5 squad mates shoots him. Knives are only really used for fun stealth kills.

Game limitation or not, id still rather have the bayonet. I prefer that extra reach.

Honestly I'd like to have a melee where its a quicker transition and just smash them in the face
Granted I mostly have to melee when bot rushes me in a building and chases me around while I reload or take that time to put the bayonet on

the swipe and stab that the soldier does with both the knife and bayonet would in IRL cut you up and then it would stab you but in PR the damage is only delivered by the stab which is unrealistic, but i guess its a BF2 engine problem
i liked knifes and bayonets before the change i found them useful when out of ammo now you will have a better chance to go on and reload then try and stab (especially with the whole hit reg)
anyway i dont think they should be removed they have a bit of an advantage over the knife and the time that has been put into them (also the GL kind of animations would be nice on the bayonet)

I don't use knives and Bayonets that much...
TBH the first time I used them in 0.95 was yesterday when I was a Taliban soldier on Korengal valley and I went to an area looking over the US main base and I found a whole enemy squad there!
I shot 3 guys with my AK but then I ran out of bullets so I stabbed the other 3 while they dived thinking I was far shooting at them lol!

Although it would appear kind of odd, why not just have bayonets permanently fixed on the guns they can be fixed on?
That way, when you press "1" to switch, only the animation of repositioning your gun would play, and they would be A LOT easier to use for their intended purpose. Melee fighting in warfare nowadays only occurs as a quick reaction or last resort, the current mounting of bayonets makes it useless for those purposes.

to be honest teh long animations just degenerate the gameplay to vanilla knife fight standards, circling around
Though I did use the AKM bayonet somewhat well today on Asad Khal, some IDF guy was shooting into the house and I ran out and stabbed him in the back cause my ammo was out
