As already posted quite a few times, they were militia -> Chechens -> militia

However, the thing that confused me the most was the title of Chechens. None of the maps in PR that I know of is based in Chechnya. The 'original' story was in Northwestern Georgia (Abkhazia).

Now here is the interesting part; the original story had three maps (fools mestia etc). These were based off of real locations in the aforementioned region of Abkhazia. Now whats interesting is that rather recently some maps were released that take place in the same region (Ochamchira is one, the other, that GB v Militia city map, I'm not so sure of...). Now I followed the dev diary that described the creation of Ochamchira, and the basis for the map, according the dev, anyway, was that he simply found it on Google Earth.

And the location he found on google earth just so happened to be in the same region as the OTHER original GB vs Militia maps (later RUS vs Militia maps).

Coincidence? I think not. $10 says the devs has some secret backstory that they used to read themselves to sleep with after long nights of coding.

fools road, mestia and dragonfly were all created to be in one series of maps, pitting BAF against militia arms dealers can't remember who by though.

Fools road and mestia were russian maps for 0.85/6/7 to bump the russian map count.

I appreciate that this idea is probably not really feasible, due to the time and work it would involve; but I was thinking, that it would be cool, to have 2 militia factions; one with Russian equipment to fight the Russian army and another, with Yugoslav equipment taken from OPK, to fight the British or other western factions.

I just want to see a M76 marksman rifle in PR really ;)

They are based on Real Life Chechens that have fought against Russia in 1994-1996 & 1999-2009.
They Speak Russian in the Game. Before 0.85 They were named Chechenya instead of Militia.
They originally had the Chechen flag but it was changed to another flag.

Why are you reviving a dead thread & especially after a dev already commented/confirmed.

Militias are extreme terrorist, that's what i think they are.

Edit, dead thread, not noticed. DEVs have gave their answer already.

wrong wrong wrong, originally they were a generic eastern europe arms dealers called "Militia" then they got to be Chechen faction then they got rolled back to militants, so people could use them against other factions.

I like to think of them as Mexican drug traffickers, minus the Mexican part.

I dont know man, I would associate the KLA to the taliban than an "miltia". Militia may be more paramilitary forces such as those that formed where Official "army" had to withdrawl such as many formed in Balkans.

Maybe used in game as Georgian Army withdrawls, leaves weapons, citizens and many with conscript type training organize and arm off "abandoned" weapons after army leaves.
